Who's done it, who's thot of it, regret it, and who still wants to?

(((((((((My bf wants to change his name. When he was born his dad really wanted to name him after himself. A hungarian name, I believe. His mom picked the one she wanted (he's hardly in contact with her) Now since his dad died, he wants to change it.))))))))

PS. carry on with original Q, just added liner notes for people curious why I'm asking.

I agree in a way, haff...but sometimes people try to live up to their name, and some become their name. There is more to it, but it is really just letters strung together.

I guess people want to believe in things deeper than they sometimes are, and I think that in itself can be an inspiration. For example whenever I get too down, I remind myself that my parents named my middle name "Joy" for a reason. They want me to live that way, and I have been told by many people I bring an energy to a room, a feeling of joy. I'm mostly in thot or smiling and I'm happy for that name. Don't ask me of my teenage thots of my first name though! ahhhhhhhhh

Anyways, words do things, especially when their purpose is your identification label.

GL, my biological mother named me the feminine name of my biological father. During the final stages of my adoption, my parents had the opportunity to change my name. My dad liked the name that was given to me at birth but mom mom wanted to name me Emily. My dad "won" and I'm glad. I don't look like an Emily and I think that's because I've gone through my life with my birth name.

I think changing your name is giving up a part of your identity, not just to other people but to you, too. Like when you get married and take your husband's name, if you're into tradition, I would imagine that would be a hard transition at first because you've gone XX years as Jane Doe and now you're Jane Smith. Someone changing their name just because they don't like it? I don't know about that...
