What do you do with all your other friends? Text.... Call.... check in?
You cant force an Aries to do anything they don't want to. So if you send a friendly text once in a while he will either want to reply or not :-) If he replies I am guessing you on your way to a friendship.
I personally think you over thinking this WAY too much.

Aries are in a fantasy world, life is an adventue, a quest, they're mental! Just give him space whenever he needs it, be ready to let him go at any moment, and he'll be yours forever. Every now and then contact him to see how it's goin and bam ! Another period of romance. Then his crazy brain will convince him a quest awaits him, and he's off again, and so on....

The time I spent with have been amazing and he's truly the closest thing to Love.
