I just wanted to mention this because:
1. I'd like to get your feedback about what else is good out there and...
2. Change the subject for once from the usual relationship-gone-sour jive...

Ok, so I went to see "Signs" and all I want to say to you before you plan to spend $ 10-15 is this: Don't see it!
Words to describe this overly budgeted film? Dumb, Corny, Overly-sentimental. And the alien looks totally fake--computer generated of course. Hell, Ray Harryhausen could of done a better job. M. Night Shamalyan even had the audacity to put himself in it--and he's no born actor. Well, I guess he's riding the wave of Hollywood success.

The New Spielberg? AU CONTRARE!
Has anyone else seen this flick or can reccommend something better?

sloane--

Hi there...oh boy would I have a whole lot of recommendations if you had asked this question a month ago...lol--but you can call me "broke girl" right now; thus it's been a few weeks since I've seen anything new...I will say that I love the movie "Chasing Amy" (though I don't necessarily fall into the "I Worship Kevin Smith" club). It has plenty of sex in it, to the previous poster (lol). It's also very funny, very "real-life" in many ways, deals with friendships and relationships, and shows the good, bad, and ugly in Gen X-ers in a way that even Reality Bites didn't (though I also love that movie).

As for some *fairly* recent flicks I liked, I enjoyed The Time Machine (I can just see you all rolling your eyes), I liked The Bourne Identity (not as cheesy as you might think)...hmmm, okay now I'm really frustrated w/myself because I'm having trouble remembering what else I liked that I've seen as of late. Well, let me think for a few days and come back! : )

Heather,

Hey there!
I was thinking about renting "Chasing Amy" yesterday--you must be psychic! I have read some very good reviews about the Bourne Identity--saw a few clips of it and it seems to have been made very well--almost seems to have that European-made touch to it.

Do you have any recommendations on any British films? I tend to be a sucker for Merchant-Ivory films...like "Howard's End". They don't have to be new--any films you think are worth watching--go back 20-30 years even if you'd like.
Cheers,
Sloane

Hey sloane,

Actually you'll be very disappointed in me, but I don't think I've ever seen a British film, with the exception of "Sliding Doors" w/Gwyneth Paltrow (cool Libra girl), and "The Princess Bride" (a classic, charming and funny movie)--and I don't even think those qualify as "British", you know? I'm not sure, do they?

About The Bourne Identity, I can tell you it definitely does have that Euro flavor to it--and I absolutely love spy movies and that whole "intelligent" action-drama genre.

A rental I would recommend (very old) is "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?" With Elizabeth Taylor (I believe it was made in the fifties). Excellent acting and plot--also very intense and has the potential to be dpressing depending on what mood you're in when you watch it.

I will certainly think of more later!

Cool, thanks. I will check out these as soon as i get time. Yes, i liked the style of 'red line', although i found the ending a bit lame and a bit american (no offense but they cant resist a soppy one). Someone just had to die didnt they!!!

Yes, you're right. Sensible man for staying away from the big 'H'.

As a matter of interest Sloane, what do you think of the Hollywood Smollywoods, the 'stars', in other words? I would never swap my life for theirs. They have the same problems as everybone else only theirs are exposed SOOO publically. Personally, i think their values are in the gutter. What's it with J-Lo and Ben Affleck now? Is she a serial marrier or what?!!!

And what's it with Julia Roberts stealing another womans husband? You'd think she's be able to find her own.

210,
I couldn't wait to answer your question because this circus way of life has been getting to me--I live in the LA area and here, the media and how they expose these people is very aggravating. For some celebs, the papparazzi and being in the limelight is a real tremendous bother but for others (like Jennifer lopez), they LOVE being on every damn freakin' magazine and on ET! Makes me sick--I can't stand these types. In my opinion for miss Lopez, I think she is so enamoured by her self-achieving fame that she is only interested in one person really: Herself. this relationship with Ben Affleck--another face I can't stand to see anymore--will not last. Mark my word. These are two very big ego-driven individuals (Both Leos!!) who will fight for power in the spotlight. It won't work. Chances are, miss Lopes will have her way. Sorry, I just can't stand her.
As for Julia, I think her method of gaining the affections of her now husband proves that she CAN have a juvenile side to her--her public display of a T-shirt that said "A very low Vera" (referring to her now husband's ex) was totally NOT NECESSARY. I guess Julia's got a mean-spirited streak. There are pictures now in atabloid magazine of her kissing some other guy--I know it's tabloid but....the picture tells all and it's her. This is another marriage that won't last. These people make me disgusted. And, I just want to say this everyone:
Celebs are just ordinary people. They're not finding the cure for cancer, they're not giving so much to society that in which thier contributions are deemed untra worthy. All they do is entertain us and nothing more. Some of them may think that they are above it all--well guess what, they're not.
I rest my case.

Oh and by the way...I don't know if this film is played everywhere but you have to see it. Go see "The Kid Stays In The Picture". It's f*** halarious!! It's the autobiographical story about famed and prolific movie producer Robert Evans. He narrates it too. From a female point of view, I can't believe how hot he was when he was young--if I were living in the early 60's, I would of made a strong move on this guy! I met his son a couple of times, unfortunetaly, he told me that he and his Dad don't realy talk. Shame.

Okay everyone, I'm furiously writing down all these titles like a mad woman...I love a good movie.

g-virgo:

I am hot for Vin Diesel. And oh boy do I wish it was in fact a porn starring Mr. Diesel. I'm totally joking. Not about being hot for him though!

Anyone else see big things in store for Vin? He's my new Tom Cruise at the moment...and we're astrologically compatible...he's a water sign like me! Yay!!

Sorry to get completely shallow just then. ; )

Hey speaking of celebrities, I saw 4 celebs last week which is a lot for me to see in a given week...
first, saw Danny Bonaduce outside Home Depot, then Sandra Bernhard in Beverly Hills, the next day, my favorite hockey player, Luc Robitaille picking up his kids--outside of same building I saw Sandra B--love that girl. On Saturday, I saw Timothy Dalton (ex James Bond)still looking fine.

Sloane,
Thanks for responding to my post, sorry its taken me so long to get back to you, ive been busy.

It was interesting to read what you had to say about the Hollywood trash. I live on the other side of the world to you but i guess you would have an inside view from where you stand. Yes, to me they are the most morally bankrupt people (maybe apart from politicians!) who walk the face of the earth. They think money can buy them out of anything. What Julia roberts did to that woman is disgusting, its so obvious that marriage wont last. The best thing benjamen pratt ever did was to get rid of her or accept her dumping him (whichever it was!). You'd think with all the money she had she would find a better use for it. Just goes to show, money doesnt buy class. I hope that vera woman ends up with everything julia really wants and that is true love, happiness; the true riches of life.

As for j-lo (!) and whats his name, oh yeah, ben affleck, WHAT IS THAT?!!! I thought she was 'happy' with hubby no. 2. She brags about her rise from the ghetto and how she had a 'dream' etc... and 'made it'. MADE IT! All i see is a woman who should be shopping at a cheap department store because (i dont like to be nasty but its the truth) all i see is the type of clothing you would find there. Just goes to show money doesnt buy style !!!

As you say these people are contributing nothing to nature, life etc... all they are doing is feeding their own illusions of grandeur.

The way i see it the lives of ordinary people are far more interesting and human. I feel sorry for the people of hollywood, they must be so miserable.

How are you anyway? Have you made progress with your script?
