house of leaves is intense. it is two stories literally at the same time. the full version of the book is included with brail. it is very descriptive. it builds in your mind this incredible feeling...its about a labyrinth these people find in their house. there is a monster in it. so good.

i think dianna wynne jones' worlds of magic are wondrful metaphors of the world we live in.

i wish more people here were talking about books they love

well, i think i can oblige...although, i'm not sure how you'll feel about the books i've enjoyed as they're not very similar to the one you described.

one of my all-time favorite stories is "the metamorphosis" - franz kafka. a lot of people can't believe it when i say that, because it can be seen as incredibly depressing. but i did a paper on it my first semester of college, and as a result got very in-depth with the analysis of what gregor's transformation was meant to represent. i don't see the book as depressing...i see gregor as a prisoner of his own foolish thoughts and actions, and the book spoke to me because sometimes i have a tendency to let others take advantage of me as well. in illustrating gregor's struggle, it advocates the importance of originality and having a backbone.

the great gatsby - f. scott fitzgerald. just read it.

dr. faustus - christopher marlowe. it deals with somewhat sinister material, but i like that about it.

heart of darkness> - joseph conrad. i've barely seen a book more full of rich metaphors. for some people, that would drive them insane, but for me it's fine because i like to try and understand these things. this book has the potential to really change your perspective. it explores the dark aspects of human nature, and raises questions about madness, savagery, and motivation. not a light, pleasant read by any means, but still worth it i'd say.

there are quite a few more, but i don't feel like listing them or writing about them right now. it's been so long since i've read a novel....makes me sad.
