What is this all about? My stepdad is a crab, and things like this happen ALL the time. It is frustrating beyond belief, and is the #1 source of conflict in the house, between everyone.

So, this specific example, my mom asked me to watch these chillies she's cooking. I didn't argue, just asked if she had any idea how long they would take, so I could keep doing what i was doing and also watch them. (IE, if its going to be 5 minutes I'd go check them right away, but if it was going to be like an hour, it'd be okay to wait 20 minutes or so). My step dad gets all pissy and says 'NO, you go check them because she told you to! I don't care if you want to keep doing what you're doing! Go do it!" Uh... I never said I wouldn't! I just wanted a time estimate, so I could budget my time accordingly. wth?

As my profile says, I'm 27. I happen to be staying at my parent's house for a few weeks over the holidays. It depends, he will either get bossy or snap and then go sulk. It depends on the situation, and if my mom backs 'the kids' up, or him. My mom didn't say anything at the time, I went and talked to her about it later and she said, 'I know, I never said you weren't willing to watch the peppers, he just does that'.

I'm really tired of the drama. Its not worth fighting with him over stupid shit like watching peppers. Yes he can be nice, at times. But he's like hypersensitive and if anyone says something that could possibly be misinterpreted, he takes it to the worst possible conclusion. My mom married him when I was 16. I fought with him like you wouldn't believe. My dad had been murdered when I was 15, and my mom only knew my stepdad for 1 month before they were married. I hated him. I get along with him a lot better now than then. But he pulls this crap all the time, with my mom as well. She doesn't know how to deal with it either, and has seriously considered divorce because of it. But he has a good side, he is funny, a really good entertainer, they love doing the same things. Heck when he's not being immature, I like him too. I just wish I knew how to deal with this and hopefully not CAUSE him to act out like this.

Wow....

A cancer that is hypersensitive about things!?

No way!!!!

Okay, so he is kind of a totalitarian crabby.

What decan does he belong to?

My guess is Decan I or II?

He seems kind of harsh to be a Decan III crabby.

You're 27 yo now though so it shouldn't even be a case of a father/ child type relationship anymore. Is he a difficult guy to stand up to??

Jerry Seinfeld said it best.

Your parents' house is the only place on the planet where you can never be treated like an adult.

Seriously.

The instant you walk into the doorway, you are perceived as a teenager or younger kid who doesn't know anything and doesn't have any basic authority on ANYTHING now that I think about it!

Snap snap!!!!!!

i agree.

i think no matter how you are... you'll always be the child.

i know i still get treated like it, but it's a small price to pay for what you get in return.

Aww, are crabbies sensitive to that?

I don't blame you, but experience the same problem whenever I go home too!!!
