Play the victim? That can go both ways. As to the person that was victimized by us- we too can become victims depending on the actions of the other person that decides to hurt us.
It really depends on who the cancer is and their maturity level

This is my boyfriend, we get into the biggest arguments because of this. He is very manipulative and plays the victim. I tell him all the time he has a huge issue with accepting accountability for his actions. That is why when he does something manipulative, I do it right back to him but twice as harsh. That tends to wake him up to his actions. He also has a tendency to play both sides of the fence to portray himself as the good guy to others. He wants to come across as highly intelligent and wiser than everyone else. But I notice when I give him the same treatment he dishes out. It gives him something to think about for a couple of days and his behavior changes. If he wasn't such an asshole sometimes he would be such a great partner.
