There is no guarantee he will be anything more than friends-he has told you several times he doesn't want anything more. Cherish the friendship. Not to be harsh, but you are the one who broke things off. Sure, it was for a lot of things going on, and he apparently has his life issues as well. Be his friend, give it time.
She broke up with him and now he is selfish? How defaq did that just happen? Really?
Way to easy to shift the blame to someone else, ain't it. Jeepers...
Any how. @OP
I think this will take a lot of time but I don't expect there to be a reconciliaion in the near future, and defnitely not beyond friends ever again. You have already made it clear, to him I suspect (Not my sign so I might be wrong), that he isn't what you are looking for in a potential mate. The fact that you where busy compounds this cause if you had so many other 'things' on your mind, it seems that he defnitely wasn't one of them. Now you can argue that it goes both ways, and I agree, yet you are at a crossroad irrespective.
Look, this mind sound harsh, but our thought of holding back on certain things 'to spare' another is actually very selfish. Relationships aren't built this way, atleast not the lasting ones anyway.
My advice, finish what you need to do, this ship has sailed. Don't be hopeful or try and persuw with too much vigor lest you'll just hurt more in the longrun. Whatever needs to happen will happen.
Sorry things turned out this way, but we are all creations of our own choices.
