How many other caps have a perfectionists mentality. Esp with work.

...

I just had a long and busy day at work. Minor mistakes were made... they bug the hell out of me.

Do any of you caps feel the same when things don't go seamlessly?

And if you have a mental agenda of how you want things to pan out... can you handle it with flexibility when things move slightly askew from this path you have set in your head?

Sometimes I can be really attached to an agenda, but I'm pretty good at going with the flow. But I do hate mistakes. No matter how minor.

grrr

i do not like mistakes but i can accept them because everyone makes them. what i cannot tolerate is the inability to admit and correct mistakes. almost showed my REAL rude self (lol) today at work because of that.

Very true. It's hard to move on without admitting and changing a method to avoid the same mistake. It's foolish to move on without any of that!

My problem is even with a correction or a sort of game plan to learn and avoid the same error in the future... even with all of that!... I still have a hard time letting go of the it. It's freaking annoying. The booboo itself and then not being able to let it go. Five people can tell me, "hey relax, don't be so hard on yourself, it's not even a big deal."

The one thing that get's me to calm down is reminding myself that the manner in which you grow from mistakes, big or small, is what really matters.

You're right... there's no avoiding them. Perhaps mentally accepting that will help. Ugh... part of me would rather shoot my foot. I dunno... I think that's a bona fide issue!

I am also a perfectionist at work. I am a Roofer. I am up there busting azz. I can do half a normal size roof in 3 hours and have everything perfect. One time. I did half. And 2 Guys did the other half. And it was layed out wrong. With edges sticking out. I couldn't leave it like that. So i re-did it myself! Every boss i have ever had told me i was their hardest worker. I have always climbed to the top fast.

^^^^ right on Cap4Life 🙂

My career life is only 6 yrs old, but yea I've moved up fast as well. I've changed industries all together recently and am training. Even in training I can't handle making mistakes... it's so inevitable, I'm doomed.

I think caps are really good at being methodical. Call it boring and routine, or call it very consistent in order to reproduce optimal and consistent results. And just like you 😉 we tend to have that d.i.y. if you want it done right attitude.

There are some things that have to be absolutely perfect (like a project). Some things can be good enough (like housework).

At work, I have an ideal and that has to be it. If mistakes are made, I own up to it, fix it, learn from it and move on. Try my best not to make the same mistake twice.

I strive to be the best and work hard. I'm the one doing something no one else will because it has to get done.

I honestly believe, the cream will rise to the top!

As a child, I was a perfectionist. I can't even tell you how many times I threw away homeworks and such and started over because it was not "perfect". As an adult, I have realized that perfection is unattainable and it just frustrates me. I am, however, very good at what I do, and I strive for excellence and efficiency.

This is how I was. I would cry if I didn't get something right or didn't understand. I wasted SOOOOO much paper growing up too. My thing is, my handwriting had to be perfect, especially if I had a paper due.
