I think it's all about the tone it's done in.

A critical tone, yeah, I can see it. However, a nice constructive tone, then I don't take offense and do better.

Caps kick themselves harder than anyone else can. I think it's because I expect perfection from myself. Remember, I can be critical at times, however, I'm more critical of myself than anyone else. I tend to hold everyone to the same standards I hold for myself.
So if someone points out my faults, the way I respond to it is the way it's presented.

Accuse me in a negative way, I'll accuse you of the same.
Accuse me in a positive way, I'll try not to do it again.

I don't know if that answers your question or not.

And no, you can't control everything in life, but you CAN control your response to it. If I respond to "life" in a way that I don't approve of, I'll kick myself for not responding in a more mature, logical way.

So, say, a crisis happens and I respond emotionally to it (which is normal human behavior), I'll feel bad and kick myself later on for not responding in a more rational manner.

Hope that helps.
