It seems like the media dictates what should be news and what shouldn't. For example, my local news channel seems to think that I care about the fattest pig in the valley and how she got to be that way. lol. Now, maybe that's what the majority of viewers really want in my area (*shudders at the thought) but I would rather see more serious stories that actually affect our lives. Not in- depth interviews with 12 year old 4H members. You know? So I always end up turning to the national news, which can be depressing if you watch it too much because it's generally all bad, very rarely do they have an uplifting story.

Good topic, there's more I could say on this, but I don't have enough time at the moment.

Personally, I think that what they (and by using the ominous they I mean the dark looming media people who would kill their own grandmother for a good story) is anything that sells. So they hipe things up and overdramatisize them just to play on people's emotions. They don't really care if what they're showing is actually meaningful or even actually as true as they make it out to be, as long as it sells. Money is power. Yuck.
