There are no "secret" moderators on this site. We clearly say that this site is not actively moderated and that every poster has the capability of flagging a topic and that is the complete truth.

I've checked with other people behind the scenes here and none of them have user accounts that post on the message boards or flag topics. We try to stay out of the way as much as possible and let the users figure out what gets posted and what gets flagged. The only time we delete topics is when we are contacted about topics that contain explicit text or images, contains private information, and when users' "fights" get out of control.

That said, there does seem to be a problem with the new flagging system. Some topics are being hidden because of flagging after just one user flags a topic they did not start. That was never our intention to allow that. We are looking into that and should have that fixed today.

Also, there seems to be a small group of posters (less than five) that have flagged more than others by a large margin and are more than likely abusing the flagging system to annoy certain users they don't like. We're thinking about resetting topics flagged by those users.

For the future, we're going to fix the problem outlined above. We are also considering listing the users who flag a topic, but we'd rather keep that anonymous due to privacy conerns. Your thoughts on that? Or maybe we should remove the flagging system completely because of a few users who don't get the concept of it and abuse it.

We'd also like to encourage as much feedback from the posters whether by sending private messages to this user account (dxpnet) or sending emails using the 'help' link at the top of every page.

Here's an idea - how about adding an anti-flag option? Each anti-flagging would offset one flagging, so the system could reach a healthy balance.

Plus, anti-flag is such a rocking band.🙂

Maybe bump-up the flagging to two wouldn't hurt.. *if something is clearly offensive, then the thread will be deleted anyway. As prime mentioned, with only one flag, it's more open to abuse.

I'm not quite clear why you feel it's at your discretion as to what is tolerated or acceptable and what isn't ..

That pretty much just put you in the same category as your claims about Q-bone and how he decides on what topics can carry a conversation and which ones can't.

Personally, I've flagged only a few .. and only at another persons request, for various reasons. Since dxp isn't moderated, we have to have some sort of system in place for the out-of-control fights that have been mentioned .. however, in my opinion .. a person who goes through these threads and constantly flags, such as Prime has admitted, simply because HE doesn't like the topic .. is abusing the flagging system. Just because HE believes a topic isn't worthy, does not give justification to have them removed.

DXP .. I think you should go through and put back all topics he flagged that did not contain any questionable text, for he's not a Mod and it's not up to him to decide. Now, if we were just talking about a few topics, that would be different .. but, according to him, he flags excessively, simply because he doesn't like chatter without valid substance that wieghs up to his intellectual standards.
