What is it?

I mean - sure, you can be intellectual. Sure you can talk about Kafka (who?!) and Socrates (who?!).

Sure you can debate about Obama's policies (huh?), or the situation in the Middle East (wha--?) or argue about whether immigrants "tuk yer jerbs!"

That doesn't mean you're deep, though.

And what of the everyday working class folk who "go green", drive battery-powered cars and are conscious of "our precious planet".

That give you depth? I don't think so.

Young peeps like myself?

You know?

The girls who's lives revolve around attention from both sexes, and - knowing this - create certain "rules" and impossible "standards" for the people they surround themseves with to meet?

That make you deep? Complicated, even? Na-uh.

The geeks? Who could tell you every colour on Voltron's armour? Amidala's cup size? What THE f**k a Bakugan IS?!

That kind of, er, um, PASSION give you depth? Negative.

How'sabout, mmmmmm, creative types?

Artists? Poets? Writers? Musicans?

You know? People who'll tell you they do what they do for love, when really no other feeling cmpares to have yourwork WORSHIPPED by millions?

They deep? Nay, dah-ling.

So?

What. The F**k. Is depth?

Here's MY opinion: depth isn't External.

I know. I hear you guys--

You Guys: well, duh, &2gedanow! That's why it's called "depth"...?

True, but lemme finish, dick!

What I MEAN is the external things you surround yourself with to give you an identity doesn't necessarily show you are deep.

You can go green. But still waste water, polute the earth and hurt the O-zone with body spray.

Talk about politics. But still be clueless sheep.

Be a difficult little b**ch. But still only ever be a sex object to the opposite sex.

Have all the Pokemon trading cards. But still be... well...

I think it's something other people see in you. Like confidence and power.

I think it's when people see something behind the mask. Something contrary to what you present.

Like finding out your school bully has a sibling they love more than life itself.

Or finding out that timid little nerd at work is a male stripper at night (hey - it's hard coming up with scenarios).

Uncovering a new layer to a person. One that doesn't necessarily have to make them endearing (Shock! Horror!)

We pound the earth everyday trying to seem god-like. Untouchable.

When showing humanity is what a lot of people would rather see.

Anywho. What's your opinion on depth?

Jokes aside??_

When you talk LESS, you think MORE??_ stop the internal arguments with yourself and you??ll find confidence, with enough confidence you??ll start to digging inside and in time you??ll be at the depth of your own thought.

Who cares what others have to offer, if you get caught in their path you??ll inherit their MADNESS??_ follow you own??_.lose yourself, find yourself and re invent yourself??_

Indeed.

It's a sh** little paradox.

You know - you grow up doing all you can to get outside approval when in the end the best kind is when people give it to you with next to no effort on your part.

I see two possibilities to define depth.

The first would be a wide range of interests, which would leave the quality being subjective because some people consider certain interests "shallow" while others see meaning in them.

The second would be more along the lines of innate qualities, such as wisdom, understanding, perspective, temperance, and other virtues that enhance the character of a person.

Either way, I've never been concerned with being deep and complex. If being shallow and simple makes me happy, then I am quite happy to be a simple shallow man.

hey? now that's just not fair 😢

when it comes down to it. it's pretty obvious. depth is what's beneath the surface, like somebody alread probably said. for example i would consider Charlie Sheen a "deep" person, simply because of all of his demons and personal problems. on the outside he's a happy go lucky chappy, but on the inside he's obviously a bit damaged. but he's come out of that now and completely revived himself. which to me is deep.

a deep person wouldn't rely on his handsome good looks and big muscles to win over the girl. because that, is all skin deep. which fades. whereas personality and being genuine doesn't.
