My sister's boyfriend walked out on a interrogation at the Sheriff's office. Apparently he's broken into a convenience store and a few cars. And the police is looking for him, they're on high alert searching for him. The police already has a stakeout at my mom's house because they thought he came by there and I came there armed with my shotgun. How do you deal with these situations? And should I have honestly brought a gun? My sister's boyfriend is a drug addict and a thief. And I'm worried I may have to take a bigger role for my nephews and my upcoming niece. And I know damn sure we're not about to harbor a criminal. 😢 Fuck my life with honesty.

Protect the kids.
Keep the boyfriend at arms distance, and if you know his whereabouts, tell the cops.
Keep the gun in a covert, but easily accessible spot, and say *nothing* to the cops about the firearm on hand.

Um, if he's brandishing as it sounds... ?

Other than that *I agree*, jerkface.

Brandishing it is bad.
Jerkface?

Wait why would op get shot? Unless he is the criminal or pointing a gun at a cop he's fine.

In a situation like this the criminal is already known to do crazy shit. Who's to say he won't try and show up to kidnap his own kids? Things like that happen all the time when people go crazy, so snipe is doing the right thing protecting the family.

If I have the story straight that is

Keep the shotgun in a safe but accessible (by you) place. Don't brandish it. If you pull it out remember that you have to be able to answer the following question:

"Were you in fear for your life, or the lives of your family members?" Before you are legally justified to use it in many places... you have to be able to answer yes to that question. Do not leave a round in the chamber either.

What shells are you using? For home defense in an urban area buckshot over penetrates. Birdshot is a better way to go there.

if the cops have the place staked out... that is a good thing. Make sure to tell them you want to cooperate because you want him away from your family. Btw... how is your sister about all of this?

I wouldn't tell the cops you have a shotgun. I would stay there until he is caught though.

DO step up where the kids are concerned! Being an uncle is arguably the best job in the world! I know I love it. You get to do all the fun stuff.... and hand them to mom when it is diaper time. It won't kill ya to change a few diapers too though... but I always ducked that job. lol

If you do ever use the shotgun for defense... make sure your assailant is in your house. If he is in the yard... call the cops and let him be their problem. If in the house.... you gotta defend your family and can legally justify it.

Keep a cool logical head at all times.

I didn't have the Mossberg loaded. I had 12 guage buckshot in my pocket and I informed the police that I did bring one in case he tried to harm my family. They understood and went back to staking out. I don't have to worry anymore because they caught him half way down the road. His mom told me. I don't have to worry anymore, but my sister's heartbroken over this. Like just crying like crazy. We've known the entire time and she just stood in denial. 😢
