I've done lamp a few times which was extremely fun. It sounds weird, lame, or what have you, but when you actually go and experience a larp event nothing else can compare to the fun and excitement!
Plus, who doesn't want to take a 3 day vacation to beat monsters.. I mean other people with foam weapons and fake magic and shit?
Larp* not lamp lol
Awesome!!! I'm really looking forward to it now!
I would totally get the costume, but I know he would refuse. But, he would chow out on the turkey leg!

what else would u be doing? whole foods?
A trip to Lowe's is more my speed than Whole Foods. lol!
Nothing turns me on more then a female dressed half cat half human in skimpy clothing. OMG!
I go to fantasy events rather then run of the mill renaissance, but the aspect is similar.
I've been. Dressed up and everything. Loved it! Great food, usually, and lots of cool stuff to buy. Not cheap, but still fun. Usually lots of mischief making going on around a Ren Fair (kissing booths, etc).

Sounds boring
They sell beer and wine!
They're fun.
Been to several in different parts of the US - Bristol in Wisconsin, Scarborough in Texas, Great Georgia Renaissance Festival south of Atlanta.
The ones with permanent grounds are the better ones.
The one thing I don't like about them is some of the "traditional" foods like "Ye Olde" funnel cakes, chicken on a stick, and dippin dots.
Most of them do serve mead, though. Delicious.

The one I went to didn't have the commercial fair food. They had pig spits roasting meats, roasted veggies, stews in bread bowls....at least a little closer to aiming for a traditional fare in the food department.
Oooh so much fun, been to lots loved them all. Enjoy Texas girl.

Hit the dirty duck bar if it's still open. Was a blast when I was there!
Will do!
I just remember everyone dressed up as somthing fantasy like, so elves, half cat half humans, dwarfs, vikins, and anything you can imagine gathered in the dining hall eating. Afterwards everyone was chatting, and some were playing instruments I've never seen befor, and everyone was acting a role. Out of no where people dressed up as God knows what stormed in and started killing people. The high level characters rushed to the entrance to push them back, but low level characters were dropping like flies. Once they got the enemies outside I remember seeing one run right past me the flank and ally, and with cat like reflexes I threw a lightning bolt killing the monster instantly. I was my first kill ever, and I looted the monster and found a necklace that had protection from charm. That charm trinket saved my life multiple times that event.
Right past me to flank an ally*
I went to one. I thought it would be lame. I ended up having a great time.
been to Scarborough in dallas a few times, once is all i needed tho, I only say that cus its the same thing every time.
But they do have the permanent buildings and structures so it does feel like your walking around a ye 'ol town and shit. There is some retarded dude, that sits in the middle of the square banging his head, fucking with people and asking for money, that's good for a 3 mins laugh. They have these stories and plays that are entertaining. the jousting blows imo just boring.
There's lots of handcrafted shit to look at and buy, glass blowing and shit you can watch.
Go to the gypsy wagons and get a tarot card reading for $ 20
Actually it's more midevil era, and on rare occasion fantasy which never existed in the first place.
I've yet to see anyone but you mention civil war reenactment lol.
And on top of that the events I went to had every race in humanity participating so there's that.

Only white people like reenacting shitty oppressive time periods.Like civil war shit lmfao.
Good grief! Does every freakin' thread have to turn into racism? It is ruining DXP.
I have been to the one in Plantersville, TX like dozens of times but never dressed up. I enjoy watching the glassblowers and armorers. The sights sounds and smells great tmes.
The more I hear about it all, the more I'm looking forward to it!
I'll definitely follow up with you all and let you know how it went.

It is about race duh.
Well let's be realistic.
Why would I want to role play as a European?
If it has anything to do with "European" antiquity or dark ages I would probably be a slave... The only way i would be a free man if I was from a North Africa, so it's not really European is it? I've never seen different cultures represented at these fairs.
I guess if I would have to choose while still being accurate, a pirate!CAUSE FUCK Medieval EUROPEEEE. Pillage and steal from all you fuckers.
stfu
I've been to one. It was small, but neat. The items they sell there are really cool and mostly handmade. I got myself a neat ankle bracelet. They also had rping and the one guy who played music with multiple large bells was even on America's Got Talent, I heard. Haha. It was a neat experience, but it was so small that I can't say it's worth it to go more than once. Hopefully the ones in your area are bigger

Go protest at one.
Get in the face of some person in armor with peace tied weapons .
Ever hear of the phrase "going medieval on your ass"?
I've seen plenty of people of different races participating
It's a Renaissance Fair. That period was probably the greatest lift of the human condition since ancient Greece and Rome.
Pirates, when caught, were hanged BTW.

So you're not interested in going. That's ALL you had to say. Now stfu and stop trying to derail my thread!
You'll have fun because you wont see bItchcrafts there.
Take lots of money with you 🙂
I'll plan on taking more money than I need! 🙂
We went. We had a good time! Loved the costumes. I wanted to dress up, but he didn't, so we didn't. The shows were entertaining and we enjoyed them. It was artisan's weekend, so we got to see how the craftsmanship was done - very fascinating. I did get my Tarot cards read. Haven't done that before, so it was pretty cool. The jousting exhibition was fun, but you could tell it was really staged. There were people there from all walks of life and it was fun to see everyone having a good time, especially those who were really getting into it.
All in all, it was fun to experience something new. And, yes, it IS expensive, especially if you want to do some shopping.
Glad to hear it!
Dare I ask what cuisine, if any, you sampled?
There wasn't that much really that was out of the norm. We had meat on a stick. Considered the Scottish Egg which was a hard boiled egg, wrapped in sausage, rolled in bread crumbs and deep fried, but I don't care for boiled eggs that much. We didn't spend that much time in the food areas, though.
Glad ya'll had a good time.

Was it fun or lame?
We're going to one this weekend. Neither one of us has ever been before so we're looking forward to a new experience. Not sure what to expect. We figure whether it's fun or lame, we'll build some memories and share the experience.
