For the car intellectuals

Okay, I have two car issues that I need a little advice on.

1) My headlights seem to be a little low. My taurus bf pointed this out a couple of weeks ago. My headlights were replaced around a year ago. My uncle and my mother were discussing what could be the issue, but they can't seem to figure it out. My car is a little old ('99 Nissan Altima), so I'm beginning to think it might be a connection issue/fuse. Does anyone have any input on what it could be/what I should do?

2) Less than a week ago I noticed my sideview mirror on my passenger side was hanging loose (I'm assuming someone/something knocked into it); and when I mean hanging loose, I mean it's only hanging on by the cord that connects it to the car. I don't know who did this or how it happened, but I want/need to get it fixed. I don't know whether the mirror itself can be reattached or if I have to get it replaced altogether. Again, any advice about this would be appreciated. I figure pictures would probably help, but I'm really busy as of late, so I haven't been able to get any.

I'm very far from a car expert...but when you say your headlights are low?
Could it be that they're fogged—

I hope that's not a dumb question, but I do remember my Libra used to detail cars and defogging them made them brighter believe it or not.

Lol I don't think that can be a dumb question to someone who doesn't know that much about cars. I mean, when you turn the lights on, my dashboard lights are completely fine. All turn on. You can tell that the headlights come on, but they are just super low. My high beams are working fine, though.

Defogging could be something. Except, I don't know you defog headlights lol. Did your libra tell you how?

I'm getting my taurus to look at them soon, but I figure I can learn a thing or two lol.

Yeah, they make defogging kits...or a car detailer can do it.
They basically just buff the haze out

Thank you Dazed, that was really helpful. Yes that's my car, but it's like a steel blue lol. My headlight covers aren't crystal clear, so I can try that. I really think it might be the bulbs and not the whole headlight, so I can tell my taurus that.

About the mirror, I want to buy the part and see if I can fidn a friend to do it because it might be cheaper (and I'm on a budget lol). Do you know how much mirrors generally cost?

Call your local nissan dealership.

They can give you a price for the part, number of hours to fix it, and labor cost.
