They finally discovered who Jack the Ripper was, solving one of the greatest murder myteries of all time. We just didn't hear about it because they foud out aroun 9/11. They found DNA underneath stamps sent by Jack the Ripper to the London newspaper and compared it with a bunch of others.
His name was Walter Sekert, an actor turned artist, who live within minutes of the murders. He was known by his friends to be a master of disguise, impressinisms, and he wrote often under different pen names to the newspaper. He actually painted two Jack the Ripper paintings a few years later. Everyone who knew him called him a genius. He owned many studios throuhgout London- of which most were secret from everyone. His wife said that he was known for disappearing for days or weeks without contact.
Odd and creepy huh? He wasn't even on the list of suspects all this time- just a mentioned name that maybe hada connecton. This solves a 140year mystery.
I find it fascinating, yet morbid. But, cemetaries are morbid, and I find those fascinating...Gwen, I watched this show on the Discovery channel about this and it was very interesting. I got the impression that they still can't prove it was this particular guy though, but that they're pretty sure it was. Did you ever watch that movie with Johnny Depp and Heather Graham, "From Hell"? It's based on the Jack the Ripper thing, and I thought it was masterfully done. It's one of my favorite movies now.
No I haven't seen "From Hell". It looked awsome in the ads and I almost rented it but opted for Lord of the Rings part 1. Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors.
