Has anyone ever watched this show? I've been watching it somewhat regularly for the last few years because my parents insist on watching it on a regular basis. However, we all usually have the same reaction to him...one minute we agree with what he's saying; the next, he infuriates us. More so with me because I am a lot more politically passionate than my parents. I have a love/hate feeling toward the man, he's done a lot of good and he makes a lot of good points, but there are some issues I feel he is completely wrong about, and I sometimes hate the way he won't let his guests talk. I mean, he does come off as a bully pretty regularly when he has someone on his show whose ideas and opinions he doesn't agree with. I do admire his "no bull****" approach to the issues, and I admire the way he forces his guests to explain logically why they think the way they do.
Parallax, I totally agree with you about Phil Donahue. He's sort of an interesting person on a personal level, but his style is so wormy and manipulative. He is the Rush Limbaugh of the liberals. lol. Okay, well...maybe not that bad, but I don't care for him (donahue) politically or professionally either. Limbaugh will burn in hell. lol. I would love to box with that guy. Well, I guess then that my personal preference is the hard interview. I hate it when I'm thinking of all the questions a guest COULD have been asked, but the interviewer is so obviously avoiding (pansies!) lol.
whoa...a wrestler smacked John Stossel upside the head? LOL! Why, and where was *I* when this was happening??! Funny about "Hi Russ, kiss kiss" LOL. Yeah, usually extremists (and I do consider Limbaugh an extremist) are a lot more talk than anything else. All that bravado mysteriously disappears when they're faced with someone who isn't afraid of them.
Oh, and Barbara Walters...there's one who I wish would stop being so milktoast and just grow like a half a ball, for God's sake. She's a perfectly nice person, but I believe her success only happened because she kisses the stars' asses, more than any actual investigative or interviewing finesse.
Parallax, I never knew those things about Babs, very interesting. I do respect her as a woman, I think she is (usually, except when on The View) a very classy, well-spoken, dignified lady. So I respect her a bit more now that I know she actually did something to further the whole feminist movement (not that I'm saying I'm a feminist, but as you said, it takes 'chops' of some sort to be able to stand up for what she stood up for and actually make a change). That's insanity about Florence Henderson. lol. I couldn't imagine a less offensive sight than a mother figure like Florence Henderson with a bun in the oven. Wow, it really is crazy how freaking uptight everyone was back in the day.
