Well actually I hadn't been watching the news and I haven't read anything about it...What happened?

Oh never mind...I'll go look it up, but my condolences always go out to people who have lost loved one's.

Q...I have a question for you though...theoretically do you think maybe with all of the natural disasters and terrorism going on that it may be nature's way of balancing out life? Perhaps there are just too many people in the world and nature is "killing" them off to make more room. I mean imagine if people DIDN'T die in mass amounts all over the world...What do you think?

Just because I don't count every terrorist attacks and don't post about it everywhere I go, that doesn't mean that I don't care.

It's just a huge amound of work to find out a article, read about it details, then post and complain about "why people don't post like me, do they wont care?". Sorry but I don't have time for that. I didn't posted for london attack, nor for egypt and nor for turkey. They are all same for me. I care but I don't advertise it.

Also, sorry Qbone but I think you trying to bring people attention on wrong things. People here are trully "care" about things happening where people die. I didn't see anyone saying "Oh I don't care". Saying that western people doesn't care is wrong. But media are trying to act discriminating, that is correct. Altought, not all of them are like that. Speaking that media is sh!t because 4-5 media companies out of 1000 doing sh!t is quite generalising.

No Q...I am not really talking about one incident in particular.

More like a survival of the fittest type thing. I don't think one person's life is more important than another...maybe on a personal level but not generally. My question was in reference to mass death in general. Then again I am of the belief that there is a cycle of life that in order to maintain a viable living for those fittest...some must die whether they are American or Middle Eastern, Rich or poor.

Looking at it as if we were animals...When an Anaconda gives birth, there are let's say 15 little snakes born. Out of that 15 maybe 4 survive because the environment cannot support EVERY anaconda having 15 of it's spawn survive. Do you get what I mean or am I confusing you?

I mean I've never said you were wrong about how the media coverage is, I know it is one-sided...As an African American here in America. You hear all the time that little caucasian kids are being kidnapped...they put them on the news, search for years, etc. but you NEVER hear about the African American kids unless it is Bill Cosby's son or something...So BELIEVE ME I understand what you mean.

BUT can you really say that because of the media...you are holding people responsible for learning EVERY single incident that happens all over the world? Don't you think that is a little unrealistic? Ideally EVERY death would get the same coverage but here and most places in the world revolve around $ $ $ and if stories about India, Egypt or even Moro, AR are not selling, we wouldn't find out about it unless we investigate it ourselves and I'm sorry I just don't have that kind of time. That doesn't mean I don't care...

I am not blaming anyone?.. It wasn?t my intention?

I'd like to show how/when/where?. Nothing more..! "the occasions" to prove my ideas about what is "really going on"..

Brahn? you are my "soul mate"? because you say exactly what I meant in so (short timing) between the "posts"? means one thing?.. don?t worry (I don?t love you).

Important is?

Are we human as (politically) order, or are we human as (naturally) order—

The whole thing is...there really isn't much we can do BUT take what is given to us or remain ignorant of all things.

Honestly, I wonder how much anguish would you be in on a daily basis if you connected yourself with the large amounts of death that happen all over the world every day?

Are we feeling sympathy for the people who died or the people who survived? What are condolences really worth anyway...Does it REALLY make you feel better?

I like to think of death as a transformation...I don't go to funerals because I like to think of people as they were alive...I think we do these for selfish reasons and like Haffo says, you don't have to advertise for genuine feelings to be there.

I'd like to show how/when/where?. Nothing more..! "the occasions" to prove my ideas about what is "really going on"..

The point is that I think we pretty much all know what is going on already because we live in this society everyday. When you say things like...

In Egypt?3 days ago? bombing took 88 lives?. No one cared?!

We're just letting you know we DO care, even though we might not create a post OR we might not even KNOW!

or

We don?t have to make DRAMA out of it? politically or naturally.. disaster is disaster..!!
It seems like you ARE making a drama out of it. When STD posted about London...She said...

I'm sorry to hear about the horrific act of violence that recently struck London. I know many of the people here on DXP may have been touched by the bombings- and I hope that any of you who live in the UK or may have a loved ones and friends in the UK are all OK. My heart reaches out to those who were injured and killed.

No drama, just an outpouring of condolences...but when you posted this you said...

Anyone care in the west..?? really..??
huh?!

Was that REALLY necessary? Don't you see how a person might not think you ONLY had the intentions of giving condolences? You DEFINITELY have a point, I don't deny that (by the way I also agree with Brahn0913 on this) but perhaps you also had the agenda of getting your point across about the media and it's one sided coverage. Correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm not going to lie.. many times I am in my "own" world- and I don't think about the countless attrocities occurring in other areas.

I still consider myself "asleep" when it comes to political topics- and only since the shakey elections of 2000, have I decided to wake up. Not to mention, my inital approach to world news is still fairly narrowed to what's going on ...on the western side of the spectrum.

Perhaps the magnitude and meaning behind the London post is another demonstration of my naivety... and none of my feelings were hurt upon hearing your opinons, Qbone- or anyone else's. I don't deny that discussions such as these help my awareness, and allow me to think of other perspectives before acting.

Well I just get tired of reading about warfare and violence and horrible things. I read Cosmo because it takes my mind off the declining state of humanity...Who wants to think about that all of the time.

And if we are being HONEST with ourselves...the deaths that really affect us are only usually family or friends. How many of you REALLY cried or felt deep-seeded pain for those who died in these catastrophies? I'm not saying you don't feel a general disdain for what happened, but how much did it REALLY affect you daily life when you are so far removed?

I don't want to seem cold but the majority of the world is self-absorbed but to be otherwise would be detrimental to your well-being. Even people who give to charities, most do it for either a tax write off, so others can consider them philanthropic, or it makes them feel better about THEMSELVES to give to another person. If people truly cared about the state of humanity and lived by brotherly love...there would NOT be a starving person anywhere.

I don't want to say I don't care...but I would be lying if I said I was truly affected on a personal level. I'm not making judgements about anyone else...I am just trying not to be hypocritical.

Hi All

It was the msot horrible of nature's play event next to tsunami that i observed. 1000s are dead...jsut drowned. even swimmers didnt have a chance as the water was muddy and grimmy (industrial pollution). people stranded in vehicles , wadding thru water ..sometimes neck high for 2 consecutive days. children atop school buses ... ropes were thrown and they were tied to each other and one enbd of a rope to a higher floor of a near by building and another end to the bus..so htat all of htem remain afloat. Imagine women...pregnant/menstruating..stranded. peopel dying of suffocation in the car due to flash floods totally helpless.

and all the whiel the opportunist politicans throwing their hands up saying "play of nature" while 100s of ordinary citizens came out with food packages adn tea/coffee to feed the stranded people.

My daughter herself was stranded in her office(thankfully not on road). And imagine her fathers house is just 15 mins away form her offce and she couldnt reach him. he waded through the water and reached her office. but both had to stay there till the water level receeded.

Concretised Roads near my house got washed away due to force of water (940 mm rains which means over 5 feet high water level). No power, communication line got cut... only sms worked form my cell. thats how i kept in touch with world.

On Tuesday the fateful event happened which at its worst lasted till wednesday. In my house the water entered at midnight as due to heavy breeze the dreid leaves choked up the water outlet. so my house was full of ankle deep water. i woke up due to the barking of my dog. so if there was no dog.... i woudl have woken up swimming....

The worst has passed away i hope. The world should now eralise that how the human development acivites boomerang back in worse possible ways.

Qbone thanx for posting this. Thanx to everybody who share the sentiment.

CNN did report it as one of hte topics in their weather News slot. BBC was more caught up with the Space shuttle & Ireland news . i didnt see them mention. Ironical...we ususally consider BBC/CNN for soem authentic coverage. But i guess people have their own issues...

BTW the Indian news channels have attaned amturity which will leave msot of the world news channels behind. They give you lot of info on worl issues. We Indians as aresult have a high level of awareness regarding world events. Now only if our political system becomes more welfare oriented.

Branh..

You are the most passionate human in this board (after me and looney /safri/Freebird and alana)—— lol

Me ...personally LOVE Africa... EVERY INCH OF IT....!

When you get to this continent and away from the airport fuzz?.in the middle of sand dunes and Sahara? you'll see and feel the "loneliness" at the same time you will understand WHY, we humans seeking for love and understanding..

Whom ever talk about "LOVE and affections" without feeling the vastness of DESERT..! are just TALKING? you want to know LOVE?? Go to the desert and feel it for some days? then we can talk.!

That?s why I feel every word of "Safri's post"? she know what she feel..

I am not going to lecture about "who and what", feelings are feelings alright and people have different understanding about other people's feelings..!! Some may find some companion "s" in their way? some may NOT..! Life is a strange beast anyway and experience it "ALONE" is the worst that can happen to anyone.

AFRICA is (our HEART)? from south to north.. west to east..! she is MAGIC and she is my heart? I love her dearly.. every inch of it? My life is for her? if she asking for it.. I'll be glad to give it for her cause?!

Africa is the place of UNITY..!... no one see it yet..!

I have been in NORTH POLE "0 degree" you guys never been there and in south pole "0 degree again" for several weeks (shooting documentaries..) ALONE?! ONLY ME AND MY CAMERAS..!!

AND?.

Been in Africa..! Alone again (me and my cameras)?! MOST DESERTED AREAS WITH OUT civilisation POLUTIONS..!

Those sand dunes reflecting your personality/passion like a mirror?! it reflect you life (past and NOW) in split seconds..! what ever happen in the future is "unwritten"? but you get the message..!!

LOVE EACHOTHER?AND CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER..!

This is the message you get.. don?t believe me? get a DESERT TOUR for some weeks..!!

Thank you for your post and support...

If I may interject here...

There was a time within world history when the only time any information was spread at all was by word of mouth. I happen to believe that we are where we are because we are supposed to be. Knowing a thing or bit of knowledge does not make it any more or less important than not knowing it.

Am I justified in caring more for my children than for the people of any other part of the world? Had I not known of any other disaster or loss of anyone other than my family or closest friends, would it make any difference? Maybe, maybe not. If I were living on a desert island with my children and a boat appeared and the crew told me about the deaths of 1000's on a nearby island, I would still have to worry about what my children would have for supper that night, whether they would sleep soundly, etc.

I may practice a personal caste system...Qbone, remember the conversation about whether ignorance is bliss or not? What an excellent case for debate.

The truth is...I worry and take care of those that I can. I can only say that I'm sorry about the others.

Because of the media, 9 times out of 10 we are conditioned to react to something bad that happens. My daughter won the county spelling bee a few months ago. I was tickled to death. I would hope that the parents of other winners did not confront their children with 'with all that's happening in the world, and you want us to feel good about you winning a silly little spelling bee?'

Sometimes we forget about the immediate world around us. Maybe it's an escape thing. I wonder if the disasters that happen here get the same reactions from the people of third world countries. Probably not, but for the most part, we don't know the reactions because we don't know the people, we only know the media's stereotype of them.

There appears to be plenty of help, whether deserved or not. We can only pick the battles that we have the resources to change, yet not judge the involvement of others, unless of course, it includes my pocketbook.

As for the media, they know it takes time to completely rearrange the mind. I quit watching the news some time ago. Before that, I watched all of it, at the expense of the needs of those closest to me. When the media pulls you away enough, you'll believe anything they say.

At some point, you'll do anything they say.

You could call this a natural happening rather than a conspiracy theory. The result is the same.

Hey Tiamat..!!

I am not advertising for what I do or how I feel.. just saying that "if someone talk about something" the its better to see both side of the coin?. That?s how I wanted to see? I may be wrong and sound even stupid.. don?t mind me!

I wanted to show everyone the magnitude of the disasters and feelings of the humans in every cultures..!

As I've said?. Don?t mind me.. really?!!

Ladydane the so called third world is very much aware of the disasters happening in the west and they empathise with them. And yes if my child gets an award or experiences soem happiness i dont put wet blanket ont their happiness in name of tragedy happening anywhere ..even if it is my personal tragedy. All parents want to be one with their child's joys and sorrows. BTW yes when disaster hits us we are more bothered about saving our own near ones in our immediate surroundings true. But hten why the world has become a one place where all of us are becoming aware of each others problems even if they dont affect us directly. How would for example 9/11 impact me directly? A question which i dont think abotu because for me i belong to this one earth. If a particular country gets bomabarded and its oil wells are put on fire which keep on burning for 5 years. The winds carry the smoke and muck over Arabian sea and bringing horrible climatic changes in west coast of India. That's why. If say for example one particular country keeps on using the CFC and continue to contibute towards depletion of ozone layer which ultimately harms the whole world. that's why. And when one coutnry wants the most favoured nation treatment from a resources rich country in trade matters..and the country relents due to lackof superior weapons..and then get subjected to unequal treaties..that's why.

If we all go by "me being busy in my own world"...great..absolutley fantastic. then lets stop having desires beyond 2 square meals and two pairs of colthing and a small roof over our head kinda life style . Agreed? Right Ho!

Like I said, I will not judge the involvement of others in other causes. It is true that the effects of disasters or even political decisions sometimes trickle down to far-away neighbors, and the internet has brought us all closer together. But somewhere down the line someone has to be boss. The end result of any war or any disaster is the victor and the vanquished.

The best thing to do in any situation is to stay informed (learn the truth) and be prepared. There not a damn thing I can do about a car bombing, or oil rig fires, or volcanoes going off. Personal agendas run rampant in this world. As the population of the world increases, you will more of it.

The universe is unfolding as it should. I'll know my part in it when the time comes.

Ladydane I do agree with you.We have to first fulfill our respective roles in our immediate surrouindings and keep ourselves well informed at the same time about what's happening elsewhere. that's what such forums as this one is helpful. in keeping us well informed through people who dont have any political agenda. Like you and me and so many ohters here. This commercial media is so much controlled by vested interests. so it is very helpful to have public forums where the common person can present the reality as it exists around us.

No argument here. Qbone's post about history repeating itself connects itself to this well. I suppose the name of the game here is control. It's not enough to get out there and get and do for yourself, you have to have a people base under you to keep it. So we have wars and famines and fear and paranoia running amock.

One day it's going to literally be in my back yard. But in the meantime, I feel if I succumb to the fears of the elite and other paranoid maniacs, I will become as they are. For those of us who understand the power behind the agenda, the conscience is the guide. But what a price we pay for our grounded moral foundations.

The founding fathers of the USA knew this well. They may have been property owners and wealthy, but you don't say "we pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred Honor" if you don't mean it.
A post on another topic prompted me to do this one:

What are some good home remedies for such things as burns? Bites from snakes or wasps? Anyone know how to make a splint or tourniquet? Best ways to get rid of fevers or chills? Rashes?
