Tyson Craig Beckford (born in Bronx, New York)
is an American male supermodel and actor,
known worldwide for his muscular physique, facial structure, and tattoos;
and also as the lead model for Ralph Lauren.

He is also reported to be one of the highest-paid and richest male supermodels in the world.

Beckford is the son of a half Jamaican half Chinese father and Jamaican mother

Growing up in Rochester, New York, he attended Bay Trail Middle School in the suburbs of Penfield, NY and then Pittsford Mendon High School in the affluent suburb of Pittsford as a participant in the Urban-Suburban Program, a busing program designed to give educational opportunities to urban youth in the city's surrounding suburban school districts.

Tyson was a member of his high school football and track teams. In 1991, he was recruited to hip hop magazine The Source by a talent scout who had come across him by chance in a New York park.

In 1993, Beckford was recruited by Ralph Lauren as the front model for the company's Polo line of male sportswear.

Beckford's fame continued to rise, and he was named "Man of the Year" in 1995 by VH1, as well as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World by People magazine.

In June 2005, Beckford was injured in a car accident near his home. His vehicle caught fire, and Beckford was able to pull himself out before it became fully engulfed in flames. The accident had a profound effect on his spirituality, which he later revealed on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Today, Beckford lives with his young son in New York City.

Beckford is an Ambassador for the non-profit Kick4Life, an organization that uses the power of soccer to engage vulnerable youth in holistic care and support in Lesotho, southern Africa.

"Model/actor Tyson Beckford has recalled his brush with gun crime during his upbringing in New York, revealing he has been —shot at?? in the past. The star was raised in The Bronx when it was a notorious gangster heartland during the 1970s and ??80s, and in his youth, he experienced the tough reality of life on the streets first hand.


He is adamant his background has made him immune to fear and he was unruffled when he was recently bombarded with death threats on Twitter.com relating to his judging role on U.K. TV talent show Britain and Ireland??s Next Top Model.
Beckford reported the threats to bosses at the series?? Sky network, and he now makes sure he keeps his personal details offline and never gives away his location.


He tells Britain??s The Sun newspaper, —I got a lot of negative tweets??_ I got death threats: —We??re coming to shoot you when you come to London??. I come from America, I'm coming from ganglands. It ain't like I haven't been shot at before. Bring it on buddy! But I did alert Sky. And I don't say where I am on Twitter. I might tweet a photo, but if anybody rocks up (arrives there) they??ll find I left a few hours ago. But I'm not worried.??"
