Ah, well. I can't argue with corniness, but I went into it not being serious. I don't give a shit about what KC has to say, I just listen to some catchy beats that are rather simplistic. If you want substance and meaning coming from an MC, then you'd be a fool to consider KC. I don't find rap or hip hop to serve any purpose further than background noise for festivities with substances. If I want relevance, I listen to real music.
To be fair though, I can't hate on KC for getting signed over more talented artists. All he did was market himself and now he gets to party and ryhme about blunts for a living. It's a shame the other MCs who spit art and poetry aren't heard more often... but I feel like it's partly through their choice because they rather be out of the mainstream. Staying underground has it's own kind of respect, you know? Correct me if I'm wrong, but with the many conduits of networking available to aspiring artists, it can't be that hard to get signed. Plus, don't forget. We're talking about rap after all, so no need to be overly serious... No matter how you package it, it's still just rap -> Looped beats and opinions.
Anyway... Seeing as your not into KC, I'd be interested in hearing a few suggestions of more serious MCs. Any new and enjoyable tunes would be welcomed and appreciated, whether it be mainstream or off radar.
I've been jammin to him lately and I think I dig what he does with hip hop.
Any thoughts on his spin on things? Keep in mind, I'm talking strictly music here. Separate from the subject material of his music.
