What would you do if you went to the store & the money-teller/grocery-store clerk and ask for ten $ 100 bills in exchange for a solid G-note ( $ 1,000.00), yet because the money-teller/grocery-store clerk wasn't paying attention & serving you attitude while s/he was on the cell-phone, s/he accidently gives you ten $ 1000 bills in exchange for your G-note? So now you you have $ 10,000.00 instead of only $ 1000.00 in change. Please let's be honest people.
Would you attitude be something similar to:
A.) Oh My God, I feel bad, let me return this. If I was the money-teller/grocery-store clerk, I would want someone to be rightous & help me out so that my boss/supervisor wouldn't fire me & accuse me of stealing. I don't care if I'm homeless, that is wrong. *crys* B.) HOT DAMN!! $ 10,000.00 dollars. Well, it's not my fault s/he should've been paying attention & not on the phone, especially the cell-phone. Look, I have bills to pay, my baby needs milk/diapers, & my student loans/credit-card needs to be paid off. People get paid to work & not to be pussy-footing around & making personal calls. You see how Gos punishes the wicked? S/He gave me straight funk attitude..*shrugs* Oh well?*sings* I'm off the ?Lizard', the wonderful ?Lizard Lounge' (
I: Went out to car, discovered it & saw it in dis-belief, went back in the store, searched for the teller (but she had customers & STILL on the phone), call for the Manager, pointed out that one of his employees made a HUGE mishap, gave him the money, then he called the cleck, sercurity, & I in this little office-esque room, questioned the clerk & me, called for another employee to bring the money-tray, he counted the money AND the money I returned, thanked me/gave hand-shake, gave me my correct change w/ a $ 20 dollar girt-card, wished me ?Happy-BirthDay' & let me go.
But I was thinking: Leaving as quick as I could so that the bank-teller/grocery-store clerk wouldn't pick-up on her mistake. Go to another store in a different location to see if there was another grocery-store clerk not paying attention, on the phone, or stressed out & repeated it.
I would've returned the money too, no question; because I know If the shoe were on the other foot; if I were owner or manager, I would greatly appreciate the same.
I had a similar incident, where a clerk returned me too much money; not much. But I didn't notice till I got home, and recounted everything. So I returned immediately, and they were much relieved, as it would've come out of their own pocket, otherwise. They appreciated my honesty, giving me a small thank-you gift, which of course I never expected..
Yesterdat at market the cashier gave me more change that it should be. It wasn't much, but I still gave it back. The cashier even didn't understand what's going on. Must be due to hot weather that burned their brains.
I don't usually check my change, very absentminded and distracted I am - I am sure someone once gave me change for a $ 100, I think I only gave them a twenty or fifty, didn't even notice until a couple of days later when my budget didn't add up, and had no idea which store. I would hope that I would notice $ 10,000 and take it back; otherwise it would end up in the bottom of my cupboard for months and on my things to do list to return. Maybe that's why I hand my money over to my hubby. 🙂
Good for you haffo, our stories sound quite similar; only my clerk was on the ball, and knew exactly what was missing; not too hot in Canada I suppose; brains more freeze-dried here, I guess..! LOL 😉
btw, the constant counting; it maybe a minor 'obsessive/compulisive habit, you've gotten yourself into, haffo. It's like you slowly trained/re-wired your brain to this repeated stimulus. What you have to do, is unfocus it somehow, maybe listen to music, focus more of what's ahead of you; keep your mind clear or on other things. With time, this may slowly pass. That's if it bother's you, of course..lol*
