Guys, I'm sorry, but this thread prompted me to watch Ron Paul at the debates, and to go to his site to check out his platform, and I remain unimpressed. I'm a Progressive, but was excited to think that there could be someone likeable on the Republican ticket. I'd actually like for you to explain to me why someone (me) who'll vote for a Republican when pigs fly in a frozen hell should like Ron Paul. I'm not being a smart-ass- I really do want to know why you like him and think that others should. Sell him to me. Please use specific issues, not general principals.

Main stream media telling you how to vote. The left's assassination of Paul is again in high swing.

everyone saw the bullshit against ron paul coming, but seeing this restores my faith in the media greatly.

Sorry Westside, I know that is not the answer you wanted to hear. However sometimes people are more powerful after they are gone than they ever could be alive. Imagine the firestorm that would erupt if Ron Paul became a modern day Nathan Hale, there would be no stopping the groundswell then.

I am not saying I think it should or that I want it to happen, I just think there is a very good chance it will.

hmmm..i never thought of it like that...i expect him to be assasinated also, and today it would be alot easier than when JFK was around. but exclude rand, and there would be no other REAL politician to fight for this country..so even if he was more powerful in death, i dont think it would be as powerful as it needs to be...just my thought...i wonder if people had conversations like this before JFk was got put in office hehe

I saw the Republican Leadership Council on C-Span last night, and don't get me wrong, I think Ron Paul is awesome for his ideas in general, but the more I think about it, the more I think that he'll be better served as an idea man rather than a president, but an idea man who influences successive politicians and citizens none the less. I like to think of him as a politician to the politicians who are out of touch, so to speak. I also think it would be best to undo corruption from the outside looking in as opposed to having to fight it while being in the thick of it in Washington D.C.

Herman Cain also impressed me with his advocacy of a flat tax for citizens and businesses alike, although I think it's a little high at 25% . I'd rather it be at 20% or less.

As for Newt Gingrich and Michelle Bachman, Gingrich spoke as if the crowd were a bunch of stupid kids that he was scolding, and Bachman spoke as if the crowd were her best frenemy. Those alone gave me an impression of what they thought of their constituents, which turned me off to the both of them. Paul and Cain seemed to keep it more on the level with the crowd in my opinion.

Herman Cain is a Trojan horse, who sat on the board of the fed and thinks they should not be audited. He also supported the same tarp bailouts that helped to get us in this financial bind.

I might be inclined to agree that Ron Paul would be better in a supporting role to another president. Unfortunately the only other choice is his son, which I am sure he will not run against. Everyone else has proven in one way or another that they do not have what America desperately needs.

Didn't know that, thanks. I still think a flat tax is a good idea, but yet again, an inflation susceptible fiat currency which is privately controlled isn't.

Speaking of the Fed, check out this video, The Secret of Oz. Although it's over two and a half hours long, it's worth it:

He had many loyalists in 2008 but many more are now onto him.

He is pro-US Constitution. Our government is broke and what has progressives done? Why are you a progressive? What in progressivism do you support? Why do you support it? The progressive era is over done.

You just kinda make up stuff and throw it out there, huh? "The Progressive Era is over". Just because you wish it doesn't make it so. What do you mean "What have Progressives done?" Progressives are not in charge...Democrats and Republicans are. To equate Progressives with Democrats is the same as equating Libertarians with Republicans. I dislike leaders of the Republican party because they can't compromise, and I dislike leaders of the Democratic party because they always bend over and take it. But, this thread is not about why I'm a Progressive. This thread is about Ron Paul, and I was asking some honest questions. Not a single Republican has answered, and all the Libertarians just shoot videos at me. Can't you even describe why you like him beyond vague concepts? Once again, I'm not playing Devil's Advocate...I seriously would like a discussion and I'm not getting one. I haven't attacked anyone for liking Ron Paul, and I don't appreciate attacks instead of communication.

He is a revolutionary who will bring swift radical change. He is not just an idea man. This is someone who follows his convictions and he is a medical doctor. He comes from a different background than most politicians, which are businessmen and lawyers.

I think people fear change and change is what we need.

He doesn't even take money from lobbyists AND he has declined to have the same health care plan as the other politicians which is awesome!

OK, here is my original post:

"Guys, I'm sorry, but this thread prompted me to watch Ron Paul at the debates, and to go to his site to check out his platform, and I remain unimpressed. I'm a Progressive, but was excited to think that there could be someone likeable on the Republican ticket. I'm not being a smart-ass- I really do want to know why you like him and think that others should. Sell him to me. Please use specific issues, not general principals."

And here is your response:

"He had many loyalists in 2008 but many more are now onto him.

He is pro-US Constitution. Our government is broke and what has progressives done? Why are you a progressive? What in progressivism do you support? Why do you support it? The progressive era is over done."

So...you were much more interested in having a knee-jerk reaction to my political label than in telling me why your candidate is the best one. I actually wanted to know, and am now completely turned off. Perhaps you misread the intention of my post, because I was trying to be humorous, but I think you should have asked for clarified rather than attacked, don't you? Please don't tell me what I am...I know what I am, who I am, and where I stand. I simply wanted to know who Ron Paul is. It would have been nice for people I "know" on here to share with me, but I'll go find out elsewhere.
