Was it Isaac who had 300 wives and 700 concubines? Can't remember his name exactly, but, I remember hearing that this man was favored by God. God loved him so much for his faith and servitude, that the man was blessed and talked directly to the diety.

Servitude? Serving 1000 women?

So, is it safe to assume that it was ACCEPTED by God to have so many wives and women?

Yes, although in later years it's said that from the beginning, God intended marriages to be only between One man and One woman. The christ, or maybe it's one of the apostles, lectures some older men about this when asked about divorce.

But it just goes to show you how male centric the bible is.

If you want to really have your eyes opened about the bible sometime, read "God, a biography. By Jack Miles. Don't read it if you're a strong christian tho... it might just shake your faith.

Back when I was a "fundy" I would have considered it Blasfemy. But it's well researched and written. Jack Miles is an EX Jesuit monk.

I want that book, I'm always looking for an excuse to visit the bookstore. Questions, questions, questions . . . there are so many loopholes and I'm always wanting answers because I can't figure it out.

I'm having a hard time understanding how the bible can be taken so literally. Isn't it just a guideline?

I'll read that book. Maybe it will answer a lot that I've been asking for years.

Here ya go P-Angel... a path to follow...

GOD a Biography, By Jack Miles. A Borzoi book published by Alfred A. Knopf, Inc. New York 1995. ISBN # 0-679-41833-4.

A note about the author: Jack Miles is a columnist and member of the editorial board of the Los Angeles Times. For seven years he was that newspapers literary editor. A former Jesuit, he persued religious studies at the Pontifical Gregorian university, Rome, and the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. He holds a doctorate in Near Eastern Languages from Harvard University. He was a 1989 Guggenheim fellow. The director of the Times literary awards program, he has served as president of the national book critics circle, of which he is still a member. Miles writes for a long list of learned and popular publications, notably the Atlantic monthly. He is married with one dauthter.

I found my copy on Amazon.com. What's weird is, my lady friend at the time, ordered it thinking it was a funny light hearted book about God... but got the title mixed up with another book and THIS came in... it's an astounding read. I couldn't put it down till I had finished the whole thing.

Solomon, then.

According to everything I've read, and documentaries on TV, this man was greatly revered by God for his faith. If you know of some verses in the Bible that say that God wasn't pleased with him, let me know . . I want to read it because I've never heard anyone say that God wasn't pleased with him . . On The Contrary.

Additionally, Jesus and his woman were together all the time. They shared many moments together, alone. They were in love with each other, I'm sure. I'm thinking they had sex. Jesus was human, afterall, for 33 years and he had a woman who spent nights with him. I mean . . com'on . . he was human.

I'm thinking that sex isn't as "taboo" to God, as much as it is to humans. Me thinks God WANTS us to enjoy as much sex as possible.

Afterall, isn't it said, to be fruitful and multiply? Isn't it also said that releasing your sperm in the belly of a whore is better than letting it spill to the ground?

God condones men sleeping with whores?

Not that I know of. Never saw that verse and I've read the bible cover to cover three times... but you can never remember it all, LOL.

One verse says it's wrong to let your seed spill on the ground.

Another says you should not join yourself with a whore because "don't you know that when you join yourself with a whore you become one with her?"

>If you know of some verses in the Bible that say that God wasn't pleased with him, let me know

There are several, but inadvertantly. God calls humans fools several times and never says... except for Solomon, so God must view Solomon as a fool too.

A lot of people will agree with you about Jesus and Mary. It stands to reason from a human standpoint. The reason why christians are appalled at such a notion is that the Christ, in order to be the "last sacrifice" and the "perfect lamb of God", he had to be perfect. Never having sinned. And it was said that to even look on a woman with lust was a sin, so he could not have done it. Christians assume that he was celebate his whole life and never even masturbated, LOL. Pretty far fetched 'eh? Who knows... sigh.

Read Jack Miles book and it will enlighten you LOTS. SHows how God actually is NOT the same, yesterday, today and forever... but rather EVOLVED over time. Shows that GOD cannot see into the future all the time. ANd makes mistakes. One example... before the flood, God says "I am sorry that I made man." What an odd statement coming from someone who supposedly knows everything that's going to happen in the future isn't it?

And speaking of the flood... have you read "The Impossible Voyage Of Noahs Ark" written by Robert Moore in 1983? He shows that such a voyage NEVER could have happened, beyond a shadow of a doubt. So we now have one confirmed myth in the bible... how many more are in there?

Thanks Yama, but, still not condemned for the 1000 women.

FC, I saw a special on TV about the impossible voyage of the Ark. I still need to go to the bookstore to get the Miles book, I'll pick that one up too, by Moore.

I do find it curious that we can find fossils dating back millions of years . . but, can't find proof of anything that the bible states happened . . such as, the ark.

About Jesus . . he lived in the flesh, he experienced everything in the flesh . . why not sex? That sounds like a man-made theory because MAN wants Jesus to be above what humans need sexually, man wants Jesus to be god-like . . when, while here . . he was just a man.

Isn't there all kinds of incerpts in the bible where it talks about adults marrying, procreating, doesn't god want his people to multply and experience physical joy?

Isn't that the whole reason why god put Jesus here? When Jesus was born, wasn't it God living in Jesus as a man; and he did so to experience the physical sensations of being human . . and then, didn't have sex? Why would anyone believe that?

It's not the fact that religions and bible doesn't make sense that bothers me because I don't even believe we were even put here by God, so what does it really matter . . if the bible isn't real? What bothers me is that people would just believe anyway, even though their logic and common sense tells them that it's a contricition. And that is exactly what it is, even if people may disagree because they will have all kinds of answers, until a contricition comes up, then they say, "Just have faith". Suddenly, when it doesn't make sense, they close their mind and blindly jump because they know it's not the truth, but, has to have something to believe in.

You have to get Moores book from me, as it was never published in book form, but as an article for a science magizine in 1983.

I was doing some research, and found LOTS of references to it. But no actual info. Searched A LOT over many days and no luck. Finally I found someone who said they had a copy of the original and would send it to me. I then scanned it in to my system and corrected all the spelling errors I could find etc....

So it's a 300k + document. If you're nervious about sending me your regular email address, just sign up for a hotmail or yahoo account... they're free and give me one of those and I'll send it to ya, free.
