I would like some input from Scorpio males about this:

My Scorpio is afraid of a lot of things. A good example is our recent cruise vacation. He was very worried about the trip because he's afraid to ride in airplanes and boats. Our shore excursions were limited because he was afraid to ride horses or go ziplining (he's afraid of heights, and therefore high rides such as rollecoasters). He also didn't want me driving to or from the airport, even though he was exhausted both ways. Basically, he was afraid of our whole trip. This is a real head-scratcher, because he's kind of a "man's man" otherwise. He works in landscape construction, operates huge machines, does electrical work, does home renovations, speaks his mind to large men, and all sorts of other things that are potentially dangerous.

He doesn't really have a clear answer as to why these things scare him. My feeling is that it's a control issue. When you're on a plane, for instance, someone else is in control of your life and destiny. When he's on a track hoe, he's in complete control of whatever might occur.

Something similar was going on with my Scorpio ex. He wouldn't go anywhere he wasn't already familiar with- whether it was a restaurant or a vacation destination. He had an extreme aversion to computers and cell phones, to the point that I would have to look things up on the internet for him because he refused to touch the keyboard. He thought of it as a proud resistance to technology. I just saw it as a another control issue. If he were to venture into anything unfamiliar, he might not know how to keep his grace and composure- he wouldn't automatically know how things worked in this new area. Technology was just as foreign to him as a new vacation spot.

Am I anywhere near the target on this one? Do other Scorps do this or do I just date the odd ones?

I am a Scorpio I did have a fear of flying on planes. I remember my first flight to Spain I was afraid because the night before I was due to fly for the first. I watched the movie Alive about a plane crash that happened in the Andes.

The passenagers eat the dead people to servive so it did give me the heebie jeebies.

Ha ha! It seemed like there were all sorts of plane and cruise ship accidents right before we went on our trip. I tried to hide them from him, but he heard all about them and described to me in great detail how we were probably doomed to die.

I like doing stuff that people consider scary. Like I'd LOVE to skydive. I love swimming with sharks. I want to spend my wedding night in a haunted hotel. I love harleys and I loved flying this experimental aircraft I got to fly. But, OTOH, I'm scared of stuff most people would think are stupid. Spiders. Getting lost. I think its the 'devil may care' attitude. I like the thrill of it, but if its something that isn't thrilling but just scary, its scary.

This is helpful, Skykomish. I really do want to understand. I am aware that Scorpios profess love for thrills, death, and danger, so it's confusing me that the ones I know seem to be afraid of a lot, but I know there's logic in there somewhere. By the way, my Scorp is petrified of spiders, too!

I will do all of those scary things. I would skydive, swam with sharks in the past, love thrill rides, have little fear of heights, and enjoy haunted houses. I'm also not afraid of spiders, planes, boats, horses, zip lines, new technology, getting lost, or much at all, really (beyond the normal dose of caution). I'm a Gemini, though, not a Scorpio, so maybe my need for novelty and variety trumps my fears.

I know I'm not a male scorpio but I have a lot of males who are in my family and also I can relate to being scared of things like that so you're getting my opinion anyways 😛

My dad (who's a scorpio) likes hunting when he's not on top of goodness knows how high buildings weilding them togther while surpervising his group and making sure the project goes together smoothly and no one gets hurt. He has to make deals with different crain companies and sometimes other steel companies. He will go sit out in the bush with a gun...hunt animals and live in a sleeping bag but he would never go on a rollercoaster (I don't think) and if he did he would have been pushed very hard...just the fact that he was out where more than a few other people were would mean he had been pushed hard. He can't handle social settings when it's not business or something he's familiar with.

My brother, who is a scorpio moon and I think rising like wgamador, is the same as my dad. He found out a girl he was interested in liked jumping out of planes and even though it was some of his biggest fears (heights, falling, all the rest) he saved up to take her out...I don't know if he would think it lucky or not but they didn't end up being together long enough for him to face his fear.

I'm afraid of flying but not to the point where I can't do it. I'm afraid of horses because one 'sat' on me when I was 5...he didn't actually sit on me, he layed down and because I was on him I somehow slipped and ended up underneath him...but when you're 5 the horse def sat on you 😛 and I'm afraid of heights so rollercoasters and such are out too.

I'm not afraid of emotions though. I'm not afraid of the darker things; and neither is my dad or brother. It's hard to explain what I'm not afraid of...especially when you put it next to all of those adrenaline enducing things...it will look like we are scared of everything. Maybe that's the answer; things that cause fight or flight type adrenaline just for fun scares us?

Oh and he was probably just afraid of you driving because he feels he has to protect you and couldn't live with himself if he gave in to being tired and you drove off a cliff while he was asleep. I've read lots of places that scorpios can expect the worst to happen or just being pessimistic instead of optimistic so maybe that's how it comes out in him...even though you're probably as good a driver as he is and it would most likely have been safer for you to drive if he was so exhausted

My Scop can't either, although he'll try very, very hard for me. He says that feeling the energy of the crowd is just too overwhelming. He has no skills to ignore all the weird energy he's feeling and the odd social interactions he can't help but fixate on. I have Gemini "force fields" that allow me to block out, ignore, or move away from undesirable energy, but he doesn't have those.

I'm afraid of horses because one 'sat' on me when I was 5...he didn't actually sit on me, he layed down and because I was on him I somehow slipped and ended up underneath him...but when you're 5 the horse def sat on you

Oh nooo...ha ha!

I admire this about Scorpios

he was probably just afraid of you driving because he feels he has to protect you and couldn't live with himself if he gave in to being tired and you drove off a cliff while he was asleep.

That does sound like him.

I questioned him again about fears, and he maintained that he is only afraid of things that it is reasonable to be afraid of. I still can't agree, given the DEGREE of his fears. Maybe he just has to take it to extremes- no fear or complete fear!
