You remember those times of big, hair sprayed hair, earrings in only one ear, stilletos with jeans, guys wearing tight jeans and tanks, and women imitating Madonna. Yeah, you know you were part of that crowd. It's the 80's!
Favorite 80's band or song
'Come On Eileen' by Dexy's Midnight Runners for one...
That's a great one!
I was born in '81, so I hope I'm not too unqualified to post on this...lol. I loooooved George Michael...gotta have faith...Wake me up, before you go-go...hehe. Another George I loved--Boy George (Karma Chameleon is just a classic)! I also loved Madonna (particularly Papa Don't Preach and Like A Vigin as well as Like A Prayer, in fact I still like that one), had a brief obsession with The New Kids On The Block (I said BRIEF!), and wanted to BE Cyndi Lauper. Great hair. : )
However, the one I probably loved the most, but who now kinda scares me...MICHAEL JACKSON! I loved every single song he ever did. One of my very first memories is of my parents letting me watch the "thriller" video when I ws like 4 years old. It scared me to death, but I loved it! I remember crying, and then asking to watch it over and over again (how's that for a typical scorp, I'll take some dancing ghouls and decaying zombies please, even if it makes me cry, lol) Oh Michael...I had the biggest crush on him (back when he was...normal looking...remember back that far?). "Billlie Jean"--gotta love that stuff!

LOL. .Hey, you're just a yr. younger than me! And I love everyone you mentioned!
I agree with you on MJ. Yeah, he has become scary, but he's still a genius. And funny enough, I used to get scared over the Thriller video too! I thought I was the only one, but it did give me the creeps. Especially that laugh at the end and Michael with his glowing eyes.

Yep, those were the days.
Thankfully, I missed the 80's! I was living on the Salmon River in Denny, Calif. (try finding that on the map)Mining for Gold. We didn't have electricty. We did have a battery operated radio that we would listen to. It would be talk radio and mystery theatre at night. 'The Shadow' and 'Gunsmoke' we made our own music.
I have to say, I am glad I missed the 80's. What were people thinkin? The 70's and 'Disco' was even worse! Did not participate in that! But I do think John Travolta was the man!

I can't even remember one song from the 80's! It was all a blur!!!!!!!!! One of my favorite bands was 'Tower of Power'; now that's reaching back into the past!!! Love it. Best song 'So Very Hard to Go' I think that was the 70's— Motown was what I was listening to.
Yeah, I'd say the 70's were pretty good too. I don't care much for the 60's though, like Bob Dylan, though the Beattles were pretty good.
I love Dylan, & you should listen to his latest CD 'Love and Theft' he is still the best lyricist ever!!!

152, No you're right I don't care for most of the people that you listed. Their sound doesn't move me like some other artists. What I love and what moves me is soul and old school music.
Janis Joplin screamed too much for me in her songs and I can't understand what she's saying half the time. I do like Hendrix a bit, and Santana I don't know enough about to really say. I do like his latest CD though.
I think Bob Dylan had some powerful songs, but his sound doesn't move me either. I think he was a better song writer than singer..like Carol King, Carlie Simon, and Joni Mitchell. They're great songwriters and poets, but I don't think they make great singers. Though Joni Mitchell's sound I like a lot. I also like James Taylor and Paul Simon is awesome! So, I guess I do like some folksy stuff, but not most of it.

152, I did say soul music. .Aretha Franklin falls into that category. Aretha Franklin among others is a rare find and she moves me. She can take a song make a sows ear into a silk purse as they say.
So does Stevie Wonder, who has a lot of his songs sampled from. So does Ray Charles, The Temptations, I could go on, but I won't.
Marvin Gaye
James Brown
Jimmy Rogers
Kurt Franklin
Merle Haggard
George Jones
Hank Williams
Patsy Cline
Tammy Wynette
Loretta Lynn
Bob Wills and Texas Playboys
should I keep going— I love it all! Love all soul sounds! especially full gospel church choire on Sunday in the South!

Hey! I went to a free concert in the park tonight...featuring Little River Band! My favorites are 'Cool Change' and 'Lady'. They were excellent! (I did donate, btw)...
But, now you've got me wantin' a variety of tunes playin' in my ears from the past! LOL!

Remember Alisha from the mid '80's? She sang "All Night Passion", "Baby Talk", "Too Turned On", and "Bounce Back". They're REALLY songs that can make you think about sex without trying!
