Meier Lansky was a partner of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel.

The Bugs and Meyer Mob was the predecessor to Murder, Incorporated. The gang was founded by New York Jewish American mobsters Meyer Lansky and Benjamin Siegel in the early 1920s.

The Pattern

When a contract is given, it is a given that primary, secondary and tertiery witnesses, might be hit, also, so as to be silenced.
In such business, it is preferred practice to have an extremely legitimate (valuable) reason to order a hit.
Members of the family had to be controlled. Foot soldiers couldn't just decide to kill someone and not expect to be disciplined
from higher ups in the family. Any hit had to be approved.

Racketeering
Extortion
Money Laundering
Gambling
Prostitution
Pornography
Auto Theft
Bootlegging/Smuggling (alcohol, tobacco, firearms, drugs and contraband, Illegal immigration)
Kidnappings
Murders

To name a few.

As one can imagine, in the legitimate business world, threats exists between competitors.
Some business may rely on Government contracts. To get the contract, they may consult
lobbyists to push and nudge public officials for favoritism. If the lobbyists are not pushing hard
enough, then backdoor bribes the metaphoric $ 500.00 toilet seat gets sold. No doubt, this
has been part of the bloodsucking that's plagued US budget committees, down the sewer pipe.
Only difference is that "Big Business" operates a much more sophisticated level and may not
have blood on it's hands.
