I'd say the coolest place I've ever been was either Rome or Amsterdam, although I really like Newport Rhode Island (It's got some great beaches, I was walking on the beach there one night during a full moon, and it was just really really pretty). It's wonderful to travel to foriegn cities and explore, and I truly hope that I will have the oppertunity to go exlore the wonders of the world. However, there are often so many great places right next to you that sometimes you over look them. I guess you don't really appreciate somethings unless you don't have them available all the time.

I'd say that one of my favorite places to be is the Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY NY). I'm one of those interesting individuals that likes to hang out in museums. Actually I really like sitting in the Japenese garden they have.

I don't really know what I like best about my home town... Hmmm... I guess all like about it is the people I know... "I get buy with a little help from my friends, I'm gunna try with a little help from my friends..." 🙂

Rome or Amsterdam, I'm jealous!! 🙂

Okay, let's see here (these are good questions).

"Where's the coolest place you've ever been"

That would be Portland Oregon. It's so nifty. I love that it feels like a small town, but it's an enormous city, and you can choose which way to experience it...kick back and walk around lazily exploring the history of Portland and talking to random people who are always interesting if nothing else, or, you can hit the exciting places and be carried along by the current of...of....excitement. lol. Cobblestone streets, historic buildings, oh, it's heaven. And then there's the Red Light District. Hehehe, I've never been there, but just the fact that there IS one is pretty exciting.

"the place you like to be the most"

I like to be either alone or in one-on-one situations the most, so I guess anywhere where there aren't masses of crowds would be my answer. This is weird, but I kind of like hotel rooms. lol. Not icky ones, but just any average hotel room is kind of exciting for me. lol...

"the thing you like best about your home [town]?"

Hmmm...I like that I have a couple good friends who live in the same city as me. I like that it's a pretty little city. What I like best though is the public library. How nerdy is that. lol. Actually it's not so much the inside, it's the outside with the grass and the big trees and the picnic tables. I also like the big stone steps leading up to the entrance. And I like the statues of famous military men on horses that we seem to have all over the place. And I like that all the shops downtown are pretty much within walking distance of each other, and it's very pedestrian friendly.

Pheonix I know what you mean about the hotel rooms!!! It is really exciting for some reason... I think it's the feeling of adventure just being out there, exploring the unknown. I really like traveling on rainy days too... Hotel rooms on rainy days, I don't know why. I guess it just adds to that feeling of being completely "out there". It's that wonderful feeling of being disconnected from everyday life and out there on the road, it's wonderful!!! I'm a great fan of road trips. There's something so very satisfying about having no particual place to go, no true destination, seeming a million miles from home with no idea what you will find or who you will meet... Now that's living. There will always be room in my private fantasies for a hotel room in the rain in the middle of some unknown part of the world.

Again.. Just found this post.

I've lived in Naples, Italy, for two years.
Also saw Pompei, some of Rome (nearly pick-pocketed) and the Islands of Ischia, and Capri. (Sophia Loreen & Clark Gable made a movie on one of the islands, and everyone got to ride the same (the only..old..old..old.. trolley car there.)
Also the Island of Guam, 2 years.
San Diego, California, 4 years.

I'd like to see Italy (or heck, Europe, anywhere) again.

I've been told there's actually a class difference in northern versus southern Italy. As in they wish to divide the country. (much like North vs South CA.) Apparently, N. Italy feels S. Italy is low-brow. Sicilly, for example. I've never been there, but I'd go. They like to live.
Re: Den's sister: I wish I had a job like that. I think most Europeans are more cosmopolitan than we are. Smaller countries, closer borders, better need to get along, etc.

Most people in europe must speak two or three different languages to get by in belgium. You need to speak ballon, french, and german. Almost all the younger people speak english. I am like you I speak bits and peices of 7 or 8 different languages. Just enough to get by, can not read any just speak a little, french mostly. Italy I only know tuscany well you have turin , florence and pissa all not to far apart. we stay in a little hill town between florence and pissa. quite nice the people will tell you they are tuscan.

Wish I'd seen this post earlier James.. Enjoy the weekend.

You reminded me of something. I had 2 years of French, and could puzzle out signs and directions fairly well, even in Italian. It's the speaking & recognition of words by others that was my biggest problem. Florence and Pisa would have been great to see. Tuscany has a lot of castles I hear. Those would have been must-see's for me.

My favourite places: a bathtub, my bed, the beach, forests, garden on a sunny day, rock concerts in either small clubs or outside where everyone can sit on the lawn, relax and listen to some great music.
The coolest place I have ever been to was Iceland. It was mystic and totally different from anything I had ever seen. There was a big field of gravel covered with moss and after walking for a while there was this small gab in the ground, like 15 ft long, 6 ft wide and when I looked into it, in a depth of like 15 ft, there was hot water coming out of ... nowhere. You could jump right into it and have a bath in warm water. Wow.
BizzMizzz, what are you planning to do in Romania? Hiking in the carpathes and see some wolfes? Just curious...

I am planning to travel the whole country village after village and avoid big towns who are starting to lose their local charm to flashy 'westernisms' - I was amazed and repelled last time i've been there how many mcdonalds and their sorts are in the cities.I'm planning to roam thru the eastern carpathians for about 2 weeks. Their local wine is amazing so I hope to get a bit of that too 😄
