Fellow Virgos;

So since we're the sign of service and helping others is something we do best and highly enjoy, are any of you connected to any charities or causes? Did you get involved for personal reasons/what made you choose this particular one(s)?

If not, what charity/cause would you like to be apart of, and If you could develop one of your own, what would it be?

Me: Food pantry.

I'm in the research stages as I would like nothing more than to establish one for the children and families in need in the community. Growing up, everyone in my family from my mom on down have always been soldiers in the movements of Human Services, Hospitality, and Grassroots work, etc., and I'd like to continue that trend. And not because my family did it, but when you turn the lights out at night just before going to bed, that's what life is all about. That's what's up. Keeping my feet on the ground working with the people and for the people to improve quality of life on various levels is what's most fullfilling for me.

The other day I sort of found myself agonizing over thinking about what other innovative services I could incorporate into the program because I eventually want for it to grow into a sort of overall family wellness center (mind, body, spirit), and then I spoke to someone about it and they gave me some damn good and amazing suggestions and advice...and guess what? She's a Virgo...lol, who woulda thunk it?!

If anyone can give tips/suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

Hey Vixxx!!!!! How have you been missy? I hope err'thang is peachy!

Well, I've never even thought about it. Weird but true. I'm an animal lover so it would probably have something to do with animals if I ever were to consider it. Why don't you try something along the lines of having great conversation after the meals. You know discussing things that are beneficial to ones health, or just having discussions about a myriad of subjects. Like a mens group or a ladies group, or something altogether. Exercising, yoga, I know that's not really that innovative, but it has a positive affect on mind, body, & spirit. 😉

Hi you!

Well, errthang is quite alright with me! Can't complain! You— How's the air boy?

Thanks for this! I love the idea and did think about how I could incorporate conversation around health and diet. Ultimately, what I'd like is to have a resident nutritionist or at least one who can make visits every so often and discuss meal plans, etc., as well as do some cooking classes so the families learn how to make some of the recipes on their own. It's no easy feat but I'mma work it out.

Animals eh? Awwww...RealTalk is a lil smooshy on the inside. Iono, why do I always feel like anybody who loves animals gotta be a lil smooshy on the inside? lol. I love dogs and cats. I've always wanted to volunteer at one of those dog grooming shops and paint pink polish on the finger nails of a maltese or put pretty little bows in the hair of a pomeranian. I've grown to love birds quite much too.

Thanks for the ideas. *Noted*

And in other news...did you watch the new season of BBWs? Chile...I can't with these chicks. Jen sitting there like Boo Boo the Fool while somebody slaps her up? And Ev running across restaurant tables with no shoes on? Just damn ratchet.

Lol...well the air boy? I'm soooooooo not talking to him now. We had a falling out. He can go to hell, for now. 🙂 I'll pm you details.

Yeah, I have a soft spot when it comes to animals. They can't talk (aside from parrots) & they are loyal, understanding, & they won't intentionally hurt you. Yeah, I'm a big sucker for them. I think that's great what you're doing. Cooking classes would be great too. That's good bonding. I'm sure you'll do fantastic.

Don't get me started on BBW!!! Jen is so scary. I wish Evelyn would...telling her to tone it down, WUT—?? We wouldv'e been throwing bows up in that place, for real telling her she's gonna punch her in the face? Yeah ok. These women are in their late 30's to 40's, acting like a bunch of hoodrats. BBW? It should be called angry birds!!!

Ive only discovered resently how much virgo i have in my chart so now i understand why im always helping people out. My home is always like a half way house for those having a hard time. Plus ive gone back to working with the intellectually and physically disabled which ive always loved but the money was never good. Money still not good but i love my job. Feels like im doing something worthwhile, not just going through the motions to earn a dollar.

And I say that's half the battle. So many people spend most of their lives in professions making good money but they are miserable and unfullfilled.

Nice that you are doing something that makes you happy and gives you a sense of purpose.

In years past, I only donated money to several charities that I feel very passionate about -St. Jude's, Ronald McDonald House, the local children's hospital, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society and my local Humane Society (a no kill shelter). And blood to the blood bank (sounds gross, I know).

I will continue to donate money, however, in the past year, I have gotten personally involved as much as my schedule allows. Last year, for the first time, I participated in the Cancer Society race in my community. I also became a certified bereavement counsellor and I volunteer one night every week to counselling.

The appreciation I feel for the people I meet at the counselling sessions, and the feeling of giving back to my community physically, are immeasurably gratifying. It gives me personal joy to reach out to others and to help them heal in a positive and healthy way, from their devastating loss.

Volunteer work is good for the body and soul! 🙂

Wow, Tamara, this is wonderful.

When doing my internships in school, many of the other students didn't even want to touch the bereavement field. It's tough. Much of it is Talk Therapy, and initially I didn't think I'd be strong enough, but I surprised myself. It takes alot of skill and compassion particularly in helping individuals/families process the transition from life to death.

I was walking down the street the other day and happened upon a Ronald McDonald house and I gasped! It was amazing.

Yes, Volunteer work is good for the soul and body and damn good on you for being so selfless and helping to make a difference in so many ways!

Thank you VV. I truly believe giving back is a responsibility we all should share. Bereavement counselling can be tough, but it's a really good fit and very rewarding.

I love Ronald McDonald House! There are so many wonderful charities out there.

I was thinking about your plans for the food pantry and what would be really great would be to have a breakfast program. The statistics showing children, who go to school hungry, are astounding and heartbreaking. Maybe an after-school program too where parents could pick up their children after work as opposed to children being left unattended after school?

Not sure of the bylaws and legalities in your area, but if you register as a charity, it might compel people to donate and aide in running your centre. A lot of people are very giving for a good cause.

Best of luck on making this wonderful plan of yours a reality! 😄
