i read that in Japanese culture this meant that a spirit was holding u down looking at u.
I think this is a sleeping disorder. My friend said that she was just diagnosed with a sleeping disorder with similar symtoms. She said that she would wake up but could not move or make any noise. She also said that the condition can get as bad as hollucinations. I will aks what the name is. But it does sound like pray would definitely be in order for this type of thing. Lol.
I've read something about this - when you wake up during REM (rapid eye movement)sleep your body's paralyzed and you may even hallucinate. This explains a lot of the stories of people who say they have been abducted by aliens. I had such experience once and it's horrible - like you want to run away but can't move your body.
You are referring to Sleep Paralysis, which happens to nearly everybody at some point in thier lifetime. The frequency of it seems to be linked to proper rest. If a person isn't sleeping right, or enough over a period of time, then they are prone to have this Paralysis.
When a person reaches deep sleep (REM), their mind automatically disconnects from their body. This happens so that a person won't get up and act out all their dreams. While you are laying there, if this disconnect wasn't present ... then you would actually try to take a shower in Times Square while stacking strawberries behind the door of your high school locker room .... as you are dreaming this happening.
Your minds clicks "off" from your motor functions.
When a person is sleep deprived, or extremely exhausted ..... the body wants to remain in deep sleep because of this exhaustion, while the mind is trying to wake up .... this causes you to be paralyzed while fully awake for a few seconds, up to minues ... which forces your body to catch up to the mind and wake up from being paralyzed.
The feeling of being pushed down or sat on, on the chest ... is just your mind, holding you down during REM so you won't jump out of your window because you're a purple Sparrow, who has to chase a cucumber.
During this stage of Paralysis, because the disconnection of mind/body hasn't fully bridged itself back yet, for a few seconds ..... people often experience where the brain gets confused and thinks it's suppose to try and go back to sleep because they body is still in sleep paralysis, and so it dreams in a lucid state = hallucinations.
Don't worry, you don't need to pray, it's not a demon trying to possess you .......... you're just tired, sleep more often/better.
