If it's been 5 years and he can leave you, then it's best to just move on. I haven't talked to my ex aries friend in almost two months. I miss him, but I'm enjoying my peace right now. Even though he's still trying to stir up drama.....feby said it right, though. If you love him, let him go. If it's meant to be, he'll come back. It may days, months or years. Let's just hope that you don't wait that long.
