I'm taking a look at my friends chart and I noticed Aries ascendant conj aries mars.

There's almost 18 degrees between them, so I thought maybe it is not that strong of an aspect. Also her mars' past 28 degrees, which makes it an elder. In theory it's supposed to be at least wise, cautious and in control.

That doesn't make much sense though. I mean she's clearly a mars-looking person, from her clothes to the way she speaks. Also very impacient and likes to engage in protests and feminist discussion.

So what do you guys think? Do degrees really matter that much? Or am I reading it wrong?

When you do a Pullen chart on astro.com, at the bottom of the page you find a list of your aspects, with the top ones being your strongest. But the ones which they list as your strongest might not be your tightest. idk. all the things that you're supposed to take into account when trying to determine the strength of an aspect, but I'm guessing it's orb/degrees alone don't quite do the trick.

The 1st House belongs to Aries and so does Mars. The Ascendant is domicile and Mars is domicile. No matter the degrees of separation, the condition of the 1st House is very domicile and conjunct.

No other houses has an opportunity to be so domicile or has an opportunity for this type of conjunction as an Aries Ascendant with Mars on the 1st House. And, you have to be an Aries Ascendant (or damn near) for planets to fall in place like this.

However, some Houses come close. For example, Taurus rules the 2nd house. The Moon is exalted in Taurus and domicile as Venus. So, if you have Venus in Taurus Conjunction Moon in the 2nd house (no matter the degrees of separation or applying) is a strong conjunction.... even though the Moon is domicile in the 4th which belongs to Cancer. But, once again, you would have to be an Aries Ascendant for this to be possible.

Additionally, some aspects apply and some aspects separate. Some charts will show a tiny "a" or "s." This is the direction of the planets towards or away from each other. If a conjunction involves planets applying, at the time of birth, they are in the process of forming tighter degrees - stronger conjunctions. If they are separating, they are in the process of moving away from one another. This is also something to consider with aspects and the condition of aspect.

Cool!

This is the first chart I'm actually trying to study, so it's been tricky. Totally forgot about this domicile thing.

Also, didn't know about applying vs separating aspects. Thanks a lot 🙂
