First, look up sun in houses.
Pick the house that fits you the most, description-wise.
Next, count the signs till you hit the 1st house.

Example: sun in 10th, fits the best. My sun is in cap, counting the houses, I'd get Aries as my 1st house.
Say you had sun in the 7th house, your sun being in Gemini. Counting to the 1st house, you'd get Sag as yourrising sign.

Now read the description of your supposed rising sign (along with it's decans) and see if it fits you.

Here is a sight that has descriptions for rising signs (and other fun stuff):http://www.elbertwade.com/page79.html

I did that btw as I put my sun on 8th house and that really fits on me of what they describe. I though I had a different asc & moon.

But now I gladly know that I official have Libra rising.

But still fish-hunting about those sun placement as I put this post for people who also has Sun on 8th house:

This method isn't flawless. However it should give you a very close guess of your ascendant. Give or take a sign. Since if your sun is close to an angle, that colors your ego, hence you might feel connected to it and the house before/after it.

I suppose you could your moon sign as well to check for accuracy, but ultimately a birth time is required to get it down to degrees perfectly.
