ok, this has always bothered me. i think it's in her Sun Signs book. in the leo section she alludes to the book/movie the King and I or Anna and the King. she said that the king of siam was a quintessential leo. she recommended that one purchase the book as a guide to how to get effectively deal with a leo male personaity.

well, i bought the book out of interest and also because i was dating a leo at the time. where i could see how she drew the conclusion that the king was a leo, thing is, he wasn't! he was a friggin' libra.

years after this discover, i still feel hornswoggled 😢 but i feel better now as my OCD forced the public disclosure of this information and i can now cross it off of my list of recurring random thoughts.

linda goodman is a pioneer in the new age movement. she deserves respect and i appreciate her insights although i feel that her interpretations of signs do in fact dwell too much on personal experiences.

So true. I do respect Linda Goodman and I love her writing. Most of her writing is from personal experience; for example she says Aries are really jealous people, me having an air moon am not jealous at all and was always confused about what she wrote but than I looked up her moon which was in Scorpio (go figure). With that said, I'd like to add, it's hard to describe the zodiac or any of it's 12 signs (and be specific) without using personal experience, or else it would be quite general.

Here's the thing...... Linda Goodman was an astrologer....most fiction writers are NOT. This happens all the time where a writer creates a character a certain way and then gives them an arbitrary birthday. This bothers me when it happens... for example, Harry Potter, Edward Cullen, and Steffen Salvatore.....all supposed to be a certain sign according to the birthdays assigned by the writer, but all very clearly other signs according to the personality the writers created. The authors aren't trying to get the strology right [unless it's part of the plot] they are just using a birthday that is convenient to the story line...or compeltely random.

^^^agreed.

but the king of siam was an actual person. he wasn't a fictional character so when she uses his behavior as a sign of what leos are like....maybe he had a lot of leo in his chart but he was no leo.

for me it's just a reminder that people are individuals and not so easily summed up by their sun signs. sure, it'd be great to have a birth chart calculator in our pockets so that every time we meet someone new we could get a read out but i expect that'll be available around the same time flying cars are.

james, another person who lurks and makes random comments. i think it's an over 40 thing?

i get you xangel - it's definitely a fictional account of a "true" story. anna was basically a racist 😛 i dunno if the movies portray this as i only read the book? i remember putting the book down at some point and refusing to read further but i remembered that goodman said he was a leo and at that point i needed so much help with mine that i would've flown to siam if need be.

anna had ethnocentric views and therefore her memoires painted the king as a tyrant and a pig. she disrespected many of siam's cultural traditions and in a way, she was like some woman's lib pioneer but the way she described the siamese people, it was less about an independent woman and more a snotty euro who is unable to sideline her prejudices. in the end, her view of this culture and the king via two memoires was fictionalized later in the King and I (book, not film). the resulting fictionalized king was leo-esque.

regardless, the chick who wrote the original book didn't give the king a sign. i guess in harry potter jd lang or whatever 😉 her name is gave harry some signage? i could never bring myself to read the books. the movies were ok but not enough for me to ignore the fact that these are children's stories 😛

wow...surprisingly childish for elderly earth signs.

anyhoo...yeah so uhm, i'd be interested in hearing any additional opinions about linda goodman although i think we've pretty much come to an accord.

thanks to those of you who shared your on-topic opinions. it was nice because it was something that had bothered me for a bit but now i see that if you look at it solely from a fictional perspective, ignoring that the dude was real, goodman was pretty much on point. and the character king mong...whatever, could easily be interpreted as a leo...whatever the author's intent.

bigups to xangel for pointing that out.

now the ass and dusty udder can be back to their poorly mimicked laurel and hardy routine.

True true! BUT the real story would never have been a broadway hit 😉

JK Rowling alludes to Harry Potter's sign by having his birthday be the first day of school - problem with that is in later books it isn't always the first day of school.... but basically it's 7/31. However the character is actually a virgo by nature, not a leo. And I thought the same about the books being childish, but I read my sister's copy when I was in the hospital and had nothing else to do and I got into it - now I'm a huge fan.

I actually really love the progression of the books. They do start out very "young" but you really grow with the character/watch him grow. And the books are actually much better than the movies. Not that the movies aren't good in their own right, but I have a lot of resepct for JK Rowling's writing skills - even if she IS an aries 😉 Just kidding, Linda Goodman was also an aries.
