So a national newspaper did a large investigation on modern beauty ideals (In Dutch, google translate version https://translate.google.nl/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http% 3A www.volkskrant.nl dossier-mannenspecial dit-wil-de-man~a3784084 &edit-text=&act=url">here) and came up with some interesting findings:

1. Men prefer a younger woman
2. Men consider eyes the most beautiful part of a woman's body. Breasts and bottoms are second.
3. Men want an intelligent woman.
4. Men think a B-cup is big enough. (Sexy lingerie and high heels are okay but not necessary)
5. Men think pubic hair is disgusting.
6. Men want a woman to look 'au naturel' (So little make-up, no cosmetic surgery)
7. Men believe women make themselves pretty to win from each other.
8. Men are not afraid to go bald.
9. Men have beauty ideals as well.
10. Men prefer women with a very 'characteristic' face.

I had a few interesting discussions with colleagues both old and young about these and there seems to be quite a difference between older generations and younger ones.

Me personally, I am kind of meh on the first one, indifferent on #5 (but please trim) but completely agree on the other ones. Whereas older colleagues of mine certainly preferred tits and/or ass or didn't care about brains or preferred women with more make-up. And I had the hardest time explaining a Sag friend of mine that #10 was important while she kept asking characteristic in what way. Hell if I know, I'll know when I find it. 😆

An interesting note about the response panel is that apparently marketing has managed to make men believe that women wake up in the morning with foundation, blush, eyeliner and lipstick. Au naturel my ass.

So how about it DXPnet? Agree/disagree on these findings?

#5 and #6 is about a direct a conflict as it gets.

Totally verifies your theory that men have no idea what Au Natural is.

This survey must have been taken in the shallow end of the pool.

Read the article. It was actually 3500 men world wide with higher education.

It's not my theory though, but from one of the panel members they interviewed afterwards.
Though I don't think it really is a conflict. It's not unreasonable to expect people to take care of their appearance. Younger men are simply more aware of it than the older generation.
#6 'Au naturel' is more about make-up and plastic surgery.
#5 is about shaving bush in particular. It also depends on what is in fashion right now. Armpits and legs are pretty much expected to be shaven nowadays whereas the 45+ male generation seems to prefers a 'jungle forest' as younger people call it. I don't like it completely bare down there but trimming things a little bit is appreciated.

Just like the rare few studies on http://foxhoundstudio.com/blog/fitness-life style /the-ideal-male-physique-% E2% 80% 94-what-girls-want-want-guys-want-to-be/">male physique beauty ideals according to women point out they want fit, healthy looking men. But it shouldn't appear to be too much effort. But when you look at the pictures it becomes clear that those guys would be hanging out at the gym at least twice a week.
Their version of 'au naturel' is just as distorted. So that is nothing new.

Wait...

This is research in Netherlands where most 95% of men are born in Netherlands and there's 73% men who did the university (highest level for the Netherlands).. and there's 3500 participants who took this test..

I'm not so sure about that when you want to compare to the rest of the world.

But most interest part of this test one is that young men is now taken care of themselves even more compare to the older men with their insecurities.

Whoops, you're right. I didn't catch that part. Just saw that it was 3500 men. Missed the part that 95% was from within the Netherlands.

"characteristic" face meaning very expressive?

maybe so he can actually distinguish whether she's flirting or threatening him? *pets my cap rising*

No, I think this may have the opposite effect. A very expressive face changes constantly according to emotions. This means it is less likely to have a "characteristic" expression.

I recall a few situation when my partner exclaimed delighted "you have your characteristic face expression!" I was curling my top lip, something I used to do ONLY in HIS presence!

With another partner I was raising my eyebrows ridiculously often. I guess we pick up which expressions they likes, and we do them instinctively to get more attention.

Wouldn't have been easier if I had a long nose or dimples or something...?

Every straight man says this BS:

"Men want a woman to look 'au naturel' (So little make-up, no cosmetic surgery)"

But as soon as the hot b**ch with the fierce make up and belly piercing comes along, they would leave their plain jane, yoga pants, hair in a bun gf's in an instance.

You give Gems a bad name with your thoughts!

Thinking of 'au naturel', the Sag woman comes to my mind. Carefree, wild, laughing in the rain, hair blowing in the wind.

No, more like not just another pretty girl. I find Swedish girls not very attractive for example.

I mean they are pretty and all but does one of them really stand out for you?

Nah nothing like that.

Dutch men and women are generally speaking quite emancipated and practical. White Knighting will most likely get you a punch from them because they can fix this themselves. You can find Southern European women being exasperated because their Dutch husbands won't even let her iron his clothes because 'they can do it themselves'. Concurrently Dutch women often do appreciate it you paying on a date but others will be deeply offended. There is a reason why the US has the saying "Going Dutch" when splitting the bill. 😉

Eww belly piercings. That's straight up porn. Nice for a night but too high maintenance as a girlfriend.
This is not uncommon in Amsterdam for example:

Does she look like she is plastered in make-up? Sure, she probably has some lipgloss, some foundation and some blush. But it looks natural.
Just not as 'au naturel' as most men think. 😛

also, agree with most northern european HATE white knighting. They want a woman who is together. psychologically not messed up. (in general I mean)

I dont know about U.K (Scotland and Great Britain in general) as they seem to be a little different being as they're just different all around from the rest of Europe.

Even East Europeans are very different.Theyre mostly trying to get to the West for better employment.

Also men have no idea what the fuck natural means.
They want a girl who wears flawless makeup in neutral shades so they can convince themselves they have a natural beauty.

A woman can be wearing caked on makeup in fifteen different colours of highlight and low lights and contouring this and that in neutral shades and a guy thinks shes natural but the moment she puts on red lipstick it's "too much"

The Dutch baby on a bike needs a helm. At that age, safety should trump beauty.

It's not about beauty. Well, okay, sort of. With separate cycling paths the chances of even getting in an accident is minimal. Though some children do wear helmets as soon as they can ride a bike themselves. But mostly in the learning phase where they sometimes fall over.

Once it gets a bit bigger the mom will probably put it in a bicycle child seat or in a bakfiets.

Number 7-So are you saying from a perspective that we want to be the first and last person to remember you by the way we dress. On our first date? And there after.

So since I do dress up for the first date, the second date you wouldn't judge me on a pair of sweat suits with some fresh kicks and no makeup.

So we compete and win each other by looks itself.. If I am all dressed up then go to straight comfortably loose. Then you have seen the best and worse. Then it should be all good. Because we both have style and great taste. And that can be a good common trait we like in each other.

No... I guess it got kind of lost in translation with English's lack of gender.
7. According to men: Women dress up for women. Not for men. But to compete with each other.

From the research panel:
56% thinks women make themselves pretty for men. (Beauty to seduce men)
94% believes women dress up to show they are better than other women. (Beauty to seduce men by showing they are prettier than that other girl)
84.6% believes women mostly dress up to compete with other women. (It's not about men at all. Women dress up to not look bad around other women.)

The "heterosexual misunderstanding" as the researchers call it is women believing they have to compete with other girls while men don't care if you make yourself prettier or not. If you are attractive to them (whether that is looks, personality or that 'je ne sais quoi') they don't care if you show up in a garbage bag so to speak.
Men can have their eyes drawn to a pretty woman walking by but that doesn't mean they find you any less attractive. The same reason why they can like watching certain porn but not want to bring it into practice with their woman because porn and real sex are two completely separate things for men. You hardly care about a personality of a hot girl when watching porn but with the right person their mind or the whole package can turn men on more than any pornstar ever can.

Nicely trimmed is great and fancy and the sight of it puts me instantly in favorable dispositions if you see what I mean, it is the sign of a sophisticated adult, born on this planet.

It is probably due to me being born in the 70s and being sensitized to good quality erotism.

Professionally trimmed could be nice to look at, yet coarse and unpleasant to feel, especially when you're rubbing your sensitive parts on it.

Things changed from the seventies.....we are now using laser or focused heat to decrease hair growth and coarseness considerably, to an easy to shave, scarce fluff. Nothing alien about it after shaving. It's as "homey" as a man's shaved chin, only nicer and smoother.

Highly recommended for your partner...the laser/heat machine looks like a hairdryer and would make a great Christmas present. Could be used for armpits and legs as well...unless she's got very dark skin (it burns) or very fair hair (it doesn't work).

Thank you for the insight. That is true. But I do hope to attract males with my style and personality. I do attract women though. However, I may look at the other women to see what her style is. If I catch my guy looking at someone else. I observe what she is wearing. And I may think about buying something similar to that outfit she is wearing depending on what it is. I am always looking for fashion because I am the conservative, and classy type. And some times I get comfortable on the style I own. I am actually old fashion and need to know what the latest trends are. And you can only get that by other women.

I don't care. I don't get jealous on what another women is wearing. I am highly not insecure with my own style ( unless its a bad hair day), or with other women. Males have their own style too. Do other males compete with other males when they go to a bar. One guy could wear a buttoned down shirt shirt while the other male can wear a suit and tie to a date. Do males tend to check out what that guy is wearing too. ANd see how many chicks dig who the best is. Its not like I go to your closet and say I am going to pick the same outfit as you. And see who gets the looks more. I admire women's taste and the man style too.
