Letting Go....

Life is full of ups and downs and some of us emerge from the ashes while others insist on wallowing in self pity. Some of my friends may say that im letting go of a friendship too close to breaking the shell - well maybe but a year of this up and down has taken its toll on me. There were a few around here who told me not to trust someone who lies but I insisted on seeing the good in him. And they were right - it broke my spirit.
Its a new year and although im not letting go of the friendship i am letting go of the need to put in the extra effort needed to sustain it! For a persistent person i am not sure how i will handle this but its going to be a hell of an effort but thats what new year resolutions are for.
Thanks to all of you for helping me understand the psyche of my friend a bit more but friendships involve two people and both need to put in the same amount of effort.

I know how you feel. I lost a few good friends this year. I've been a very generous person to my friends and I'm figuring out, if I'm not careful, people will start taking advantage of my generosity and kindness. You're right, friendship only works if both sides are giving the same amount, especially respect and loyalty. Here's hoping 2015 will be a better year for us!
