My best friend is a Gemini (technically Cancer, born in late June, but he has the exact personality of a Gemini), and I'm growing very concerned over the direction his life is heading.

He stays at home all day every day smoking weed and playing video games, claiming that he's "doing research" for the game his father is making to pay for his retirement.

He doesn't work and doesn't apply for jobs. He makes a million excuses, like how his mother forbids him from working (21 year old grown ass man), or he doesn't have a car and walking to work would "destroy his back" and other such BS. PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH!!!! 😱

In terms of astrology, you say that your friend is technically a Cancer but acts like a Gemini. Well, he might be a Cancer who acts like a Gemini because his chart has quite a few Gemini placements.

Next, you are generalizing quite a bit. Each person is unique and I wouldn't assume much based on their Sun Sign. While it's fun to see how many people fit the clich?, cliches are not guaranteed fates. I know many Gems who are quite successful and who have loved the voyage and work it took to get there.

Your friend sounds like he might have a gaming addiction, just like folks who have gambling addictions. Obviously, he needs help with help with this.

*wtf, didn't post everything I wrote...?*

I know I can't force anything on anyone. My own parents tried on me, and they never succeeded. TBH, I'm acting so much like my father when I talk to him about this, it ticks me off. However, while they never accomplished the goal of controlling my actions, their messages got through and I am a MUCH better person for all they've taught me. I'm now on the opposite side of arguments with my friend than I was in arguments with my parents. 😛 But life doesn't get any easier, and with no work experience, no degree, no nothing he's gonna be hard pressed to survive if things go downhill in any way.

He expects to be hired on by his father to help make the game once funding starts coming in (they'll be making an Alpha within the year, he says, at which point an investor or crowd-funding will kick things into high gear). Obviously he wants to pursue a career in gaming, but he doesn't understand what that entails. He wants to be the "idea guy" who sits in meetings all day every day just talking about stuff. That job doesn't exist...

He likes to write, though I've never seen any of his work. He's a good story teller when he can stay on topic, most times he rambles on so many different tangents I have no idea what anything he is saying means or has to do with the original topic.

He has no degree; he'll be starting college on Monday. He's taken a few classes before, not sure how many or how well he did. I sincerely hope he can buckle down and do what needs to be done to get a degree, but my faith is shaky for good reason.

He's expressed interest in Public Relations, mostly with running forums because he spends so much time on them like he does with video games. It's possible he'd be good at sales or something social like that, if he applied himself to it. Maybe. I hope.

As I said though, I'm curious what you Geminis do in your lives? What careers interest YOU and why, what qualities of those jobs make them fun or at least bearable.

What sign are you? And do you have a job that you like that you can interest him in?

I'm a Cancer Sun, Scorpio Moon, I got the full chart finally and I'll be adding it to my profile as soon as I finish this post.

I'm training to be a Martial Arts Instructor and he used to train with me, but he quit a while back shortly after I did, and when I came back he wasn't interested anymore. I'm not sure it suited him anyway; too much discipline and responsibility. Maybe once he's grown up a bit more he could come back, I've considered hiring him as an assistant once I'm running my own studio and making large enough profits to afford one.

I'm also considering the military, but he has asthma so he can't join me in that endeavor.

I started working at 16 too, my parents pushed me to do so and I wanted the money. His parents have told him every year since he was old enough to speak that he can always come home; they'll never turn him away no matter what. Something to do with his mother being kicked out by her parents at one point in her past. So I wouldn't say he's spoiled, he just doesn't feel any pressure to move out because it's easier to stay with his parents.

He talks about writing a lot, so that's probably something he'd be into. He's done articles for some website that pays people for them (haven't seen any of his articles, but he showed me the site and it looks legit, I just can't remember the name). How did you get into the field, and how would you advise starting in it?

Well at least it's a start! Thank you very much for you input, I think this will help. 🙂

He may not have shown discipline in the past, but for all my issues with him he is still my best friend, and I believe if he really wants it he can do what needs to be done to achieve his goals. Writing is a field he's interested in, and with enough positive reinforcement and motivation he might well make a career in the field.

Still interested in other Geminis' input, what you do for a living that catches your fancy and why.
