I trust well raised pitbulls over many other breeds. It's all about the owners. This dog in particular was a breed of coonhound. Some breed with 'blue' in its name.

I work as a dog daycare pack leader, so this was an occupational hazard that I accepted as a strong possibility. I leaned over slightly after he walked into his crate to remove the slip leash. It happened so quick.. I'm still in shock. He just came so suddenly and quickly - mind you this is a dog that I've worked with for weeks so that fact really gets me shivering. He managed to bite onto the side of my face/jaw and held on.. and shook for a couple seconds until I physically could force him off. I screamed.

Went to the walk in and didn't need stitches luckily. They put skin clips on to heal the open wound - about 1cm open.

Glad to hear everyone is/was enjoying the Olympian festivities.

Excuse the brief/vague posts... exhausted!

The swelling isn't TOO obvious in this photo (except making me look a bit chubby in the face lol) but when you look at me straight on.. my normally very angled jawline is very swollen on my left side. It's difficult to turn my head to the right or open my mouth very much. The muscles are most damaged/sore compared to anything else.

I'm glad to say the wound should heal completely without scarring for long. The white 'tape' on my face is bandages that were used by the clinic instead of stitches. It's holding my wound shut while keeping it a bit open to breathe and stay disinfected.

Went to the annual bbq at my friend's amp shop. He made a new food to capitalize on: fried pickle corn dogs! Then it was off to the printshop down the street for an exhibit (and hush-hush performance!). Rode across town for 2 more music shows right across the street from each other. Score! At one venue played my friend that hasn't been on stage in 2 years since he gave up music to pursue his masters degree. Many people i knew showed up. It felt like a high school reunion except with people i actually wanted to see! Spent about an hour across the street tasting to the local metal flavors but it just wasn't as happening of a place for me.

I danced a lot, laughed til it hurt, got really stoopid, and was dressed to kill doing it. Fuck yeah.

I've iced it a bit.. honestly with my 5th house in Capricorn I'm pretty intolerant to cold! 😛 But seriously I have Reynaud's that is triggered by the cold.. so admittedly I avoid anything cold as much as possible.

I'm thanking everything I can right now. Even worse, he could have even damaged my eye or a tendon. I think I came out with the most minor injuries for what it could have been. I love that term right now... 'could have' instead of 'did' or the like.

My manager was really disturbed by the amount of damage he did without any warning. A bit of dog psychology here... the more often a dog bites... the less signs the dog will show before biting again. For many dogs.. they are provoked and hold it out. They will show various physical signs that can happen in multiples and very quickly. This dog has a bite history - however never to this extent of damage.

For this dog, there was a low grumble and within literally a millisecond he was sinking his teeth into me. He could have bit my hand or my arm. But no, he went for my neck. I instinctively protected it (now I see in hindsight) and moved my shoulder to block a direct bite to my neck.

The dog was a dog that typically boarded at our facility. He's no longer allowed to use our services. Unfortunately.. and 100% the opposite of what I wanted... my mother saw the bandages after it happened and called the police. Animal Control wants to quarantine the dog against my wishes. I'm really upset she took that action without even giving it to me to decide. But he'll be okay. I don't think the dog is a bad dog, at all. He's actually very sweet. But his owners never took the precautions and steps to correct his bite reaction before it progressed to little warning at all.

I pray that they take that into consideration rather than assuming that he is a 'bad dog' (honestly, there's really not many cases of that with a healthy dog.. it's typically consequence of it's environment, history, upbringing, or lack thereof).

We don't muzzle dogs. We typically don't keep dogs that have a history.. he's been with us as a company for awhile (years and years) and has gone downhill quick with his biting. We're all reevaluating staff, dog, and company safety measures and all employees are being retrained. 🙂

The owner (as I found out the other day) was shocked (oddly.. to be sadly truthful).

I've been meaning to respond to inbox, btw. Just want to take the time to write back without any distraction (or Ambien.. like now). 🙂 You're the best.

Well.. they're the most 'extreme' of the coonhounds. If they aren't given enough high energy activities during the day.. they are VERY VERY VERY VERY prone to acting out. When any breed isn't given enough of proper level activity for their age and breed they will act out in a slight echo of their roots of domestication (usually). The family provides so much for the dog and has a living connection with him. However, it's not obvious that they hold the knowledge and tools to redirect his outbursts of his instincts into an activity that he feels satisfied from AND is constructive.
