This song was really popular but this singer came and went. This is the first time I've seen her face but I remember hearing this song on the radio all the time. Are you looking to sing, write or produce? or theater?

i want to do all and eventually produce my own music but right now im open to collaborating , i want to train with debelah to learn how to use my whistle range correctly

she is marvelous teacher and was leading a girls choir by age 15

Those who can't do, teach, I guess.

Just seems odd to me that you'd want to train and break into an industry with someone who doesn't seem to have made it all that much independently.

But she may be better off teaching rather than performing. *shrugs* Unfortunately, with an industry like that, you have to pick and choose wisely if you want to get anywhere. It's why I questioned choosing a one hit wonder.

Also, I don't understand the appeal of "whistle" range. It sounds ridiculous to me, imo. :/

"Here, let me squeak when I sing."

What in the world type of music is "whistle" range used for anyway?

Sounds like some sort of dolphin mating-call in all honesty; but I have to admit it's an impressive capability. Excessive use of the whistle notes in a single song easily treads on "oversinging" territory, but it's unusual in an industry where vocalists rely heavily on pro-tools/autotune to succeed.

Nobody over-sings like Christina Aguilera in terms of the well-known artists IMO(in spite of her impressive vocal range; she cannot "tell a story" via song as many other singers can)but she still can't do a whistle range. That's probably for the best, though.

Agreed. While it IS an impressive ability, it almost sounds ridiculous. The divas that use it are fine and nice, but when it's over used or they do that whole random cluster eff of range, gag me. This artist in the video did it in the beginning and I couldn't help but wonder why it needed to be there, when the rest of the song is fine without it.

But the average listener thinks it's impressive, so they do it.

I always thought that Minnie Riperton song from the '70s/Burger King commercial tune("looooving you, is easy 'cause you're beautiful..")sounded like nails on a chalkboard

(a)because it's corny like a lot of '70s pop hits and(b)that eardrum-shattering whistle note solo. LOL.
Alternately I loved Mariah Carey's '90s songs as a kid despite that many contained shrill whistle runs. She's worthy of a free pass for that IMO. 😛

Haha, that effing song. It gets stuck in your head, too.

Mariah came to mind when I wrote my first response and I thought the same thing- she's an exception because she didn't overdo it.

I also can't help but wonder if "whistle" is actual singing and not borderline screaming. It's like that YouTube video I saw of some teenage girl singing "Fire" by Alicia Keys and those long, drawn out notes during the chorus was basically her yelling and not really singing. Yet people were praising this kid like she was a prodigy.

The music industry and shows like American Idol have ruined music/vocal talent, methinks haha. It's like anyone who can barely carry a tune is "talented."

Well the difference with me and other artist its not about money yes i do want to make a nice living but i love singing and i respect the art of singing . Alot of people think cause they can hold a note that they are "talented" . I totally agree with you but i also believe and thinking positive and being the change i want to see . Also alot of people sing from the throat(Mariah) instead of the diaphragm (Debelah ) and i feel its really disrespectful that people sing for the money and not really taking the time to study and hone their craft. Even people who do seek out voice lessons they may be steered in the wrong direction because they are not being taught properly ( Singing From the Diaphragm, Proper Tongue Placement) and end up ruining there voice in the long run . Most people dont know if you learn to sing correctly your voice should last into old age ( Patti Labelle)and you dont have to yell to get a strong tone . I think alot of people are okay with being mediocre and fitting in but i refuse to be like other people and if i walk alone then so be it . Debelah has more control over her whistle range and Mariah jus

I didn't say or think that Mariah was better. I just said that "whistle" bs worked because it wasn't overkill. The intro in the video above was obnoxious.

Aka, I don't really care for the "whistle" tones as it sounds like screeching bats. To each their own. If you like it, cool. Not knocking your ambitions, so go for it. I was just surprised that you'd target someone who didn't seem to have a very long stint in the industry.

Though going back on the original post, she's a Sept. Libra? Careful she doesn't go nutty on you. :p
