My mom greyed in her late 20's as well, but my father had jet black hair still at 54 when he passed away. So...I am patiently waiting to see who's genes I got in the grey hair department.

I also heard to look to your mothers father as a clue to when you will start balding. My grandfather on my mothers side is in his mid 80's and still has a full head of hair pretty much. May have receded in teh front an inch or so and got a little thin but not by much. I hope I got those genes. Women like a full head of greyed hair on middle aged men it seems.

From what I remember, premature grey is a trait inherited from the mother and is recessive. Meaning, if your mother greyed pre-maturely, you are guaranteed to...

The same is true for balding and pre-mature balding. The fact that it is a recessive trait is why most women do not bald, but some do, and why the trait is inherited from the mother's side of the family (though not strictly the maternal grandfather).
