I'm very happy that many of the residents are not waiting to evacuate this time around. Looking at the weather stations, they still say Texas is not out of the odds of it hitting here. My mom is convinced that Gustav is going to hit just inside the Texas border, which would cause the Houston area to get a lot of rain, but that no matter what, New Orleans would get the dirty side of the quandrant. That means they will get the heavy rains and stronger storm surges. I love Texas and living where I do, but hurricane season is always a nail biter.

I have a beach house in Surfside, which so far is not in Gustav's path, but if it shifts, my house may not be there when this is all over. It could hit anywhere from Mississippi gulf coast to High Island, TX. Surfside is 75 miles southwest of High Island.

The LA governor is giving a press conference right now that wherever this hits, it would cause 10-12 feet of flood water and wind gusts of up to 130 mph at landfall.

Of course, once a hurricane makes landfall, we also have to worry about tornados.

Nothing I can do now for my house. I pray this isn't as bad as they are predicting.
