It's so great how people on this message board are from all over the world....so I wondered- what do you really like about your background- about the culture you came from?
Culture

Does living in the states still count?
I live in Los Angeles and grew up here. It's a soup bowl of people. All cultures boiled into one which is what I like. I didn't grown up with race issues as a big deal because my community was predominantly Mexican and Asian with everyone else mixed in. Next city over...predominantly Armenian. To me, this just meant different types of food to sample when visiting friends. Buses run everywhere which was awesome when I was a teenager. There is more freedom of expression for Gays/Lesbians here than most places. 90% of the transies on any corner in Hollywood are friendly as hell. And they should be, it's good for business. Just hide your wallet. : )
Someone can walk down the street downtown talking to themselves and I consider it interesting. Other people walk by this person like it's a normal occurrence. Because it is. They go about their business without flinching.
Plenty of night life. About a million different radio stations to chose from. Mountains for hiking, beaches for sun, Vegas 4 hours away. For only $ 1.50 you can get the best Carne Asada burritos from any roach coach on any block in East L.A. .... enough to make someone really hate Taco Bell forever once they know there is such a thing as REAL Mexican food.
The negs are the traffic and lines everywhere.

I'm not in a very diverse area, so I enjoy the fact that when I "travel", I get some exposure to people of all backgrounds. I suppose if I had to say what I like about where I come from, it's that it's very "typical America". Not in the midwestern sense, but it's just very ... kind of blue collar; people are not very snobbish. People work hard for the most part and value their families highly. People are very "live and let live", and I like that.
