con-di-ment
/kon-de-mint/
Noun
Something used to improve or enhance the taste or enjoyment of food.
Mustard, ketchup, and salt are all examples of condiments.

The topic of the second debate follows.

Which is the superior condiment? The list provided in the example from the dictionary above is far from all-inclusive - feel free to champion something of your own choosing. There are a great many things that could be used to —enhance?? the taste or enjoyment of food (what is —food?? anyway?) that would not typically be considered condiments or found on the average grocery store shelf. Anything that fits the definition above is fair game. Please provide specific examples and justification for your choice. As only one condiment can be superior to all others, you are necessarily required to demonstrate why those advanced by others are inferior to your choice.

As with the first debate, you will be judged on how well you stake your position, defend it against attack, and logically support it. Remember that although there are no formal teams, you are free to form whatever public or covert alliances you see fit. Spectators: you are welcome to comment in this thread.

The debate will end 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds after the time stamp on this post.

Mix one quarter cup imagination with a heaping teaspoon of innuendo and have fun with this one. Good luck!

You guys have me beat. I certainly can't put mushrooms on my face but I can imagine it'll be a funny thing to do while tripping out...

BUT ARE YOU GUYS EATING EACH OTHERS FACES! Well... on that thought maybe in another light perhaps.

So without further research I have come to the conclusion

Lemon: Leads to death
Honey: Leads to death
Olive Oil: probably does nothing
Mushies: Leads to death but with one hell of a spiritual trip

Health Reasons
-It's a good source of oleic acid, an omega-9 fatty acid that is converted during digestion to oleoylethanolamide (OEA), a hormone that helps keep brain cells healthy.

-It helps bolster the immune system and protect against viruses

-Oleocanthal, a phytonutrient found in olive oil can mimic the effects of ibuprofen in reducing inflammation, which can reduce the risk of breast cancer.

-Squalene and lignans are among the other olive oil components being studied for their possible effects on cancer.

-Helps to lower levels of bad LDL cholesterol in the blood that leads to heart disease.

-Is rich in antioxidants, especially vitamin E.

-Among plant oils, olive oil is the highest in monounsaturated fat, which doesn't oxidize in the body, and it's low in polyunsaturated fat, the kind that does oxidize.

-Has been shown with good diet to help improve diabetes been increasing insulin sensitivity

-Studies have shown that diets high in olive oil are less likely to develop Rheumatoid Arthritis

-A high consumption of olive oil appears to improve bone mineralization and calcification. It helps calcium absorption and so plays an important role in aiding sufferers and in preventing the onset of Osteoporosis.

Anyways I could go on and on and on and on 😄

WHERES THE REFERENCE BITCH?!

I reference you to 101 uses for olive oil LMAO but I will list all 101 first

Science has turned its investigative eye upon it in recent years, and numerous studies have only reinforced the notion that olive oil is an amazing substance with numerous benefits. Here are 101 of them.

Olive oil can:

1. Make your arteries more elastic — Two tablespoons daily makes you more resistant to strokes and heart attack.

2. Reduce bad cholesterol levels. — Olive oil contains polyphenols, which help to keep your levels of LDL cholesterol within healthy ranges.

3. Make you less hungry — Olive oil makes you feel sated and tends to make you eat less and have fewer sugar cravings.

4. Reduce the risk of stroke in the elderly through yet another mechanism — Older people who ate diets rich in olive oil consumption, which contains plasma oleic acid, had fewer strokes in a 2011 study.

5. Lower the risk of coronary heart disease in women — Mediterranean cultures have long revered the olive and its oil, with good reason. An Italian study found that a diet that included olive oil along with plenty of leafy vegetables and fruit resulted in reduced rates of coronary heart disease in women enrolled in the study.

6. Cure or reduce acne — Although it sounds counterintuitive to use oil to fight pimples and blackheads, using an olive oil and salt scrub helps some types of acne.

7. Protect your red blood cells and therefore your heart — Over time, cells oxidize, leading to the common effects of aging. A specific polyphenol in olive oil is especially effective at protecting your red blood cells from oxidation. A 2009 study identified this component as DHPEA-EDA.

8. Treat sunburn — Olive oil soothes the pain of mild sunburn by helping skin retain its moisture. Use equal parts olive oil and water in a tight-lidded container. Shake well, then apply to mild sunburn. Shake the mixture often during application to keep it from separating.

9. Help fight breast cancer — Olive oil contains phytochemicals, and a 2008 study found that they are effecting at killing cancer cells and suppressing cancer genes.

10. Improve your memory — Some research has shown that olive oil can prevent and possibly even reverse the memory loss that accompanies Alzheimer??s disease.

15. Prevent dry scalps — Using olive oil as a scalp conditioner moisturizes your dry scalp.

16. Prevent middle-age spread — Because olive oil is a calorie-dense food, it is often avoided out of fear that it will cause weight gain. However, a 2008 study showed that olive oil, along with nut oils, did not cause weight gain the way less healthy fats do.

17. Provide an easy way to add minimally processed food to your diet — Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is unrefined. It is obtained by pressing cold olives. All other oils that are readily available to consumers must be refined using heat and other harsh processes.

18. Clean sensitive skin — The Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans had no soap and didn't miss it thanks to olive oil. They massaged olive oil into their skin, then scraped it back off, along with dirt and dead skin. Today, a wide variety of soaps, including some made from olive oil, are available. Yet many people still prefer to clean their skin with pure olive oil.

19. Remove paint from your skin — Olive oil gently loosens paint on your skin. When you wipe away the oil, the paint goes with it. Your skin will be left soft, firm and smooth.

20. Make an inexpensive exfoliant that works like the most expensive spa products available — Exfoliating removes dead skin and prevents your skin from becoming dull. Mix a palmful of olive oil with a teaspoon of sugar or salt. Apply the mixture to your skin, then massage gently.

21. Moisturize your skin — Olive oil is closer in chemical structure to your skin??s natural oil than any other naturally occurring oil. Use it as you would a body, face and hand lotion.

22. Prevent your skin from aging prematurely — The same antioxidant properties that keep your red blood cells from oxidizing when you eat olive oil keep your skin cells from oxidizing when you apply it topically. The antioxidant hydroxytyrosol and vitamin E help to prevent cell degeneration in your skin.

23. Never clog your pores or cause pimples — Olive oil penetrates the skin, leaving your skin silky smooth with no greasy feeling. Cleopatra undoubtedly had many costly beauty secrets up her sleeve, but the most important of them can be yours for the price of a small bottle of EVOO.

24. Prevent sagging skin — The squalene in olive oil increases your skin??s elasticity, leaving it firmly toned with a bright, youthful glow.

25. Smooth and moisturize rough, dry feet — Make a foot scrub of equal parts olive oil and honey, a third part sugar and a dash of lemon juice. Soak your feet in warm water, then massage the moisture into them. Follow up by moisturizing your feet and hands with a well-shaken water and olive oil emulsion.

26. Give you a safe sunless tan — Use olive oil as a medium to make self-tanners go on more smoothly and evenly. Mix equal parts of a commercial self-tanning product and olive oil. Apply the mixture to your skin and enjoy your streak-free sunless tan.

27. Act as a perfect medium for cosmetics — Combined with natural pigments and beeswax, olive oil makes inexpensive, natural lip-gloss, blush and even eye shadow.

28. Make a perfect addition to homemade skin-care products — Nearly all your skin-care recipes, from masks to exfoliants, can be improved by substituting olive oil for the oil called for in the original recipe. You can also often improve and extend expensive commercial skin care products by mixing a small amount with a palmful of olive oil just before you use them.

29. Act as a perfect carrier for oil-based medicines — Essential oils usually cannot be used full-strength on the skin. They typically require the use of a carrier oil. Olive oil is excellent carrier oil for most essential oils.

30. Team up with mashed avocado for a homemade facial mask — Mix olive oil with a mashed ripe avocado into a paste. Smooth onto your face or another area that needs moisturizing and rejuvenating. Allow to sit for 15 minutes, then rinse.

31. Combine with honey and egg for a beauty mask right from the pages of Venus?? beauty guide — An ancient beauty mask recipe is made from an egg yolk, a spoonful of honey and a spoonful of olive oil. Rub it on and wait for 15 minutes, then rinse it all off with warm water.

32. Make a natural vitamin supplement — Two tablespoons can replace your daily vitamin E supplement while providing all the other benefits of olive oil.

33. Possibly protect and lubricate your

33. Possibly protect and lubricate your voice — There is no scientific evidence yet to back them up, but singers have been using olive oil as a gargle before performing for centuries.

34. Make a natural massage oil — Olive oil may very well be the world??s oldest massage oil. It can be used alone or as a carrier oil for essential oils.

35. Enhance spirituality — Homer makes reference to the use of olive oil as an anointing oil. In ancient times, anointing was very important. Olive oil was often combined with myrrh or cinnamon oil before it was used for this sacred purpose.

36. Improve your skin??s appearance from the inside out — Including olive oil in your daily diet helps your skin stay healthy and beautiful.

37. Act as an all-natural personal lubricant — Olive oil is almost certainly the world??s oldest personal lubricant. It should not be used in combination with latex condoms or diaphragms, however.

38. Help fight off degenerative diseases — The antioxidants in olive oil give it the power to help lessen the impact of degenerative diseases on your body.

39. Improve the health of the entire population of the world — The World Health Organization officially recommends that people across the world adopt the Mediterranean diet for better health and specifically suggests olive oil as the healthiest source of fat on the planet.

40. Hold its own next to fruits and vegetables as a source of antioxidants and vitamins — EVOO is a natural, minimally processed food that contains as many antioxidants and nutrients as many foods that are touted as health foods.

41. Lower your blood pressure — Although researchers have some theories as to why it works, no one is sure why olive oil helps to lower blood pressure. They just know that it does.

42. Reduce nitric acid to normal levels — Nitric acid has been proven to increase blood pressure. Olive oil reduces nitric acid levels. This may be one of the ways it lowers your blood pressure.

43. Take the credit for making women beautiful — The Bible mentions that the Persian king Xerxes?? wives used olive oil to make themselves beautiful. More recently, Sophia Loren, who is still being named to —most beautiful?? lists in her 70s, credits her beauty to olive oil baths. She also claims to consume olive oil daily.

If you do this in the shower, your whole body will emerge soft and silky.

51. Remove makeup — Apply olive oil to a cotton ball and gently wipe your makeup off your face. You can safely use olive oil near your eyes.

52. Firm and tone skin — Combine equal parts water and olive oil in a jar or other container with a tight-fitting lid. Shake well. Apply to your skin.

54. Act as a sensual massage oil — Olive oil has been used as a sensual massage oil since ancient times.

55. Help you create delicious, healthy baked goods — Olive oil is commonly used in baking in the Mediterranean. Use a lighter-colored, lighter tasting end-of-season version for desserts.

56. Ensure your baked goods come out of the pan in one piece — Olive oil can be rubbed or misted on baking pans instead of baking sprays or shortening.

@ nacho...well apparently ..olive oil isnt all that you say it is. this is what i got about it

"ALL oils and fat contribute to disease. Even the widely accepted cold-processed olive oil. Though it may be healthier than margarine, cottonseed, butter and many other fats, consumed in anything but the smallest quantity will sabotage your health. The danger lies in people thinking they can use it liberally because it is —healthy?? and even touted to promote weight loss in some diet ideologies (ie. Mediterranean Diet).

In May 2000, Robert Vogel, MD, stunned the members of the American College of Cardiology by warning that olive oil could be as dangerous to your heart and arteries as a Big Mac or giant piece of cheesecake.

What did he base this on? He tested 3 groups of volunteers with normal cholesterol levels. Each group was given a meal and blood vessel restriction was measured 3 hours after the meal. The salmon meal had negligible vessel restriction and the meal with canola oil and bread 11% . But the olive oil and bread meal had a whopping 34% vessel restriction."

heres the ref: http://healthtips.vites.com/the-dangers-of-olive-oil<BR>

Everything should be eaten in moderation of course. Even have way to much ascorbic/citric acid in lemons can eat away at the enamel of your teeth.

Yes, everything in moderation. But considering an "overdose" of each of the condiments chosen so far, we are all in the same boat.

I'm glad you acknowledged this it saves me from arguing health benefits of mushrooms. So what else induces a spiritual trip which adds to shrooms being the ultimate not to mention all the different application to not only food but drinks and generally indulging the tastebuds and brainbuds.... mmmm brainbuds.

Magic mushrooms
Many varieties of mushrooms contain good-for-your-bladder selenium and, like us, they produce vitamin D when exposed to sunlight. Oyster mushrooms are a good source or iron. Plus, they're low in calories: Six medium white, for example, have just 22. Here are some of the many health benefits of mushrooms.

Increase your vitamin D
Yes, vitamin D! Mushrooms are the only fruit or vegetable source of this critical vitamin. Like humans, mushrooms produce vitamin D when in sunlight. Exposing them to high levels of ultraviolet B just before going to market converts more of the plant sterol ergosterol into the so-called sunshine vitamin. In the U.S., portobellos fortified with vitamin D are already being sold, with a three-ounce (85-gram) serving providing about 400 IU of vitamin D (Osteoporosis Canada recommends that adults under 50 get 400 to 1,000 IU daily). William Stevens, CEO of the trade organization Mushrooms Canada, says, —A couple of Canadian producers are already testing this procedure.?? He adds that —high D?? or —sunshine?? mushrooms should be in stores here in about six months or so.

Boost your immune system
A study done on mice and published by the American Society for Nutrition found that white button mushrooms may promote immune function by increasing the production of antiviral and other proteins that are released by cells while they are trying to protect and repair the body??s tissues. A later study showed that these mushrooms promoted the maturation of immune system cells—called dendritic cells—from bone marrow. According to he researchers, this may help enhance the body??s immunity leading to better defence systems against invading microbes.

Eat your antioxidants
When it comes to antioxidants—the substances that help fight free radicals that are the result of oxidation in our body—we??re more likely to think of colourful vegetables than neutral-hued mushrooms. But a study at Penn State university showed that the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC)—a measure of a food??s total antioxidants—of crimini and portobello mushrooms were about the same as for red peppers.

Kick up your metabolism
B vitamins are vital for turning food (carbohydrates) into fuel (glucose), which the body burns to produce energy. They also help the body metabolize fats and protein. Mushrooms contain loads of vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and vitamin B3 (niacin): 100 grams (31/2 ounces) of crimini have 44 percent and 30 percent of your daily recommended amount, respectively, white button have 36 and 30 percent, and oyster mushrooms have 32 and 39 percent.

Be good to your bladder
An analysis of seven studies—published last year in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention—showed that the higher the level of selenium, as measured in blood serum and toenails, the lower the risk of bladder cancer. Selenium had a significant protective effect mainly among women, which the researchers believe may result from gender-specific differences in this its accumulation and excretion. Several types of mushrooms are rich in this essential trace mineral: 100 grams of raw crimini have 47 percent of your daily needs, cooked shiitakes have 45 percent and raw white button have 17 percent.

But then school girls won't be attracted to me any longer if I don't sparkle! he was a heartbreaker as cedric that's for sure another PRO to dying from shrooms because he died to that nasty voldemort!

Sun can also harm the body! This is why a lot of people readily buy Vitamin D pills from the pharmacy just given their office jobs so it's a bit of a balance really. I think we'd be lying to ourselves to not acknowledge the risks and health benefits of EVERYTHING. Science can always prove something in excess is harmful.

Nonetheless all of the condiments thus far has only added benefits for the tastebuds which makes them inferior to what shrooms can achieve.

Haters! He didn't ask to sparkle he just did! FOREVER YOURS EDWARD I LUBCHU!

As for salt something forced on us is far from natural because by that argument sugar is equality as dominant. There's a reason why there's all these new 'healthy' alternatives and non of them contain sugar or salt for that purpose. But let's say as a condiment would you really use it to flavour every dish you come across? It's one extreme to the next.

When you break it down it has it's disadvantages as well as advantages like all other condiments proposed here but what extra kick does it have? If it's a dominant in the current market then that shift is changing now that more and more supermarkets are offering healthier alternatives to suit vegans and vegetarians or health nuts alike.

Wouldn't that make them part of the inferior group?

Disadvantage #1 - Olive Oil Hampers Blood Circulation

All saturated and unsaturated fatty acids (except for omega-3 fatty acid in flaxseed and medium-chain fatty acid in coconut oil) may increase blood stickiness due to clumping of platelets, which in turn causes blood clotting that may upset the normal blood flow.

Olive oil carries about 77% of oleic fatty acid, which belongs to monounsaturated fat that promotes blood clotting.

Yeah if you eat like tons of it. Sure I guess?

Disadvantage #2 - Olive Oil Reacts with Free Radicals

Because of its predominant monounsaturated fat structure (containing the unstable C=C component - double bond between 2 carbon atoms which breaks easily upon heated), olive oil can readily react with free radicals and other chemicals (oxidation) to form hydrogenated oil, and may even produce trans fatty acid during the chemical reaction. That damn double bond LOL.

This is ridiculous no? This is how olive oil reacts with Free Radicals
Auto-oxidation occurs in the absence of air by reactive oxygen species or "free radicals". It is temporarily prevented by the natural antioxidants in the oil that absorb these free radicals. When the antioxidants are used up, the oil ages quickly.

Further more it contains vitamin E a natural antioxiden!

Disadvantage #3 - Olive Oil Makes You Fat

After all, it's still a fat and carries 9 calories per gram. So, if you overeat the oil, your body fat level will rise. Just 1 tablespoon has about 130 calories and 15 g of fat.

I'm sure if you eat to much honey it will make you fat too....just like winnie the pooh

Lemon - one has to climb a tree or if within reach he or she might stumble and accidentally impale him or herself on an unsuspecting stick

Honey - Honey Badger can and will maul you down, or the bees might just have something to say to your thievery!

Olive Oil - God damn it NYAA I have nothing on you man

Butter - One might slip on butter and have blunt force trauma to the head and die

Salt - One might drown from trying to get sea salt, eaten by goldfish or unsuspecting seagulls

Shrooms - Well it's death anyway so trip it up!

And there I conclude my morbid views and such is life.

From the health media, the fact that people are willing to risk all that for the simple taste alone says something.

Yeah, but it's a stretch to compare it to water. Water does not cause hypertension, stroke and all of the other ailments I mentioned. Not only that but you don't see people cutting back on their water consumption, unlike with salt.

the health media would also like to point out it's not our choice but forced

CHOICE says there is too much salt in kids food

In an era where manufacturers are meant to be reducing salt levels in processed food, a CHOICE review of kids?? food has found unacceptably high-levels of salt in a raft of products, including breakfast cereals and lunch box snacks. In some instances, a food product marketed at children was found to have more salt than the adult equivalent.

@Jahlia: then the same argument applies to every single condiment. People like the taste of honey, they like the taste of butter, they like the taste of olive oil and they like the taste of lemon. People will eat what their tastebuds want them to eat this is where I see your argument failing in that it is superior over another one?

If this is the case isn't sugar more dominant?
