Why do you suppose "good" people, in contrast, do not necessarily finish last?

Well-- like TMV said:
I think "good" denotes strength of character; making tough decisions, even though it may painful, because it is the right thing to do.
And in the end, it will be beneficial.
Whereas "nice" has sort of an enabling feel to it-- NOT making tough decisions, because it may hurt someone's feelings or cause friction.
Which, imo, means that said "nice" person will continue to allow those with inappropriate behavior to run roughshod over them because they didn't want to endure the discomfort of not being "nice".
Bleh.
