Wow Phoenix.. not even a Dysfunctional Geek. You're too well rounded, perhaps. Hmm. We are truly living in the computer age however. The standard defintions will eventually no longer apply. (Except glasses mended with bandaid's kids.) And pocket protectors..even though I like them & appreciate what they do. And people who put hamsters in habitrail rolly-balls and race them. Just those types.

(Koff! Koff!)

Gwendylyn, I've a .. hypothesis as to your incredibly high geek factor. Basically being a depth factor, since you've spoken of things such as metaphysics, etc. What follows is not MP per se, but interested me.
I really wanted to buy that Ron L. Hubbard book, Dianetics, quite some years ago. The commercials were very slick.. "wanna solve life's mysteries? Page 37".. etc.
I actually stole a few peeks at a bookstore, but it was dry reading. Do you (or anyone esle) have recommended "higher path" books, excerpts ,etc.?

Actually, James, phoenix wants a slightly *older* man (the younger ones, at least of my generation, aren't really men in any way whatsoever!) 🙂

What's Koff Koff mean? Is that the Russian version of "cough, cough?"

I also wanted to read Dianetics, and fully agree about the slick commercials. I will not read it though now, thanks for the advice Espernaut.

I have a suggestion for a "higher path" book, but you may not be interested as it's written by a psychic (who some really love and some really hate...Sylvia Browne). It's called The Other Side and Back.

"koff koff" was part of a gag I was trying.. as in cough, cough Espernaut comes up from the cellar @ metaphysics.. a very old post from Gwen. Except I'd put "" and it disappeared on me.
Re: Dianectics.. Noo, don't take my word on it. I'd like a second opinion. Could be I was just too much in a hurry that day in the bookstore.
Re: The Other Side and Back. I actually saw this also, as an older post. I didn't comment because it sounded too much like "go to the light".. near death experiences. Why is there a love/hate relationship to this authoress?

Probably because she's a Scorpio. lol, in all seriousness, it's because a lot of people think she's a fake. I, however, and I am a HUGE cynic, believe she is not a fake.

And it *is* a little "go toward the light". HOWEVER, she talks a great deal about what the other side is like, and how we can better our lives on earth, etc. I felt it was beautiful, real, believable, and exciting--not boring.

(why do I always agree with you? lol, it almost makes me sound like I'm *trying* to agree with you, when really I would love to *not* agree with you at least every now and then...haha)

...anyway, thanks for considering a peek. I understand about bookstores. (There I go again)

What bothers me about bookstores is people on cell phones, or people who stare at me when I'm looking for a book. What the hell is that? I'd like to keep my book selections private, thank you very much. lol

espernaut...

geek factor: probably high because i know odd trivial facts like the law of robotics, how to count to 47 on one hand, what a barameter is used for, and the fact that I watch Robot Wars, X-Files, superman/x-men tv shows, and documentaries 😛

book: I know of Hubbard but haven't read anything by him. If you like science, read Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of the Universe- I never finished reading it but it is just fascinating (my geek comming out) because everything he writes about is actual fact and science theory but sounds like science fiction. also, he writes for the "simple people" in the world

Hi Gwen! (waves) Then you like Asimov! I can't remember all the books.. Robot Dreams, I Robot, and one other? I was fascinated by that. (Particularly a story about a lead robot "wriggling" his fingers/other slaved bots).
Re: 47 on one hand. Is that that spooky counting technique I saw on tv once? flail..flail..flail.."47". Barometer, very good.. How about "Astrolabe"? I've a weakness for old scientific gadgets. In brass. I can't afford them, but I'm slowly adding to my collection. (1 piece so far's a collection, right?)

Man.. do I sound as caffienated as I think I do? About Stephen Hawkings.. that guy is very daunting. I considered getting it, I'm sure it's a must read in higher circles. I like Carl Sagan also, but again, no books by him yet. I like the idea of Astronomy.. but it gets very complex, very quickly. I have tried to understand the physical world a bit better. Don't laugh, I don't remember the differences of summer solstice, equinox, etc. And that does interest me.
"Physical Science" interests me.
How many people would say, "If I won the Lotto, I'd buy my way into MIT?" That would have been an eye opener. If people were financially free to pursue their interests, I think we'd have a truly happier crowd of folks around us.

hey I found you! it took me a while to find this ost again. Now to dust it off...*cough cough* lots of cobwebs.

i love Asimov: I, Robot i read, Foundation, 2nd Foundation, Caves of Steele, Stars like Dust, Robots of Dawn, and I have tons more I haven't read yet because I found so many Asimovs at garage sales and thrift stores.

I didn't know there was a difference between solstice and equinox 🙂 'm more interested in the universe and black holes and WIMPS and MACHOS and dark matter and all those cool things because they seem unreal. You know, when you look at the stars, you're only seeing about 5% of what is really in your field of vision because 95% of the stuff in that small area of the universe is invisible to our technology. We only know its there because theres more gravity there (it makes sense believe me). *sigh* i'm going to start reading Hawkings book again...I left off with "pretend the orange is the sun" and "imagine playing ping-pong on a train traveling at light speed, if the ball moves forward on the train, does it mean its going faster than the speed of light" and all that fun stuff 🙂

my major is English literature, probably also a double major in Spanish (haven't made up my mind), and a high school teaching certificate. If I don't do the spanish major, I'll do an advertising and art certificate and take the extra two classes that give a philosophy minor and psychology minor. I just want to do everything but economics, law, or politics 🙂 my advisors are going to have heart attacks when they find out how much I really want to get done.
