I would just like to know how many of you want your cashier to count your change back to you the old fashioned way, as opposed to stating the amount recieved ("out of 20?"), then handing your change back to you making sure the big bills are clearly visible, and saying, "seven dollars and eighty three cents is your change" (and of course thank you and have a good day).
Personally, it always confuses me when cashiers count my change back. It seems like they're going backwards, and I'm easily confused by numbers, and I just bloody wish they would simply tell me what my change is and I can pretty much figure in my head if they're right or not.
I learned finally how to count change back recently, but it feels ridiculous doing it and it's so difficult for me that I refuse to do it. Because I don't have time to stand there and *think* about what I'm saying when I have a line of impatient customers who just want their damn stuff rung up.
another thought over here we have few stores that the machine tells you how much you get back the person behind the counter must know how to add and subtract.
ahh america where the dumpest can be a cashier. ahh america.... any way no we have a family store, on big bills we count back. and i need to start doing so with just smaller bills. counting change takes to much time espically when theirs to many customers
Why would it take to much time here you have 100 pence to the pound. Its the same way with the dollar. if I recall you have 1 5 10 25 50 no big deal. here we have 1 2 5 10 20 50. you can either make change are not.
well, I don't think I'm dumb just because I suck at counting change back. And james tate, we have 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and so on. Usually people don't hand me bills bigger than a fifty. And james tate we also have machines that tell you how much change you get back. But in my opinion it saves time and seems more appropriate to just state the amount of change the person gets back. Just my opinion.

A customer threw money at me the other day. And I mean threw money at me. Luckily there was no coinage involved. :) I had treated this customer with the utmost of respect, had done nothing to him (he must have been like 15 or something), he was
