I heard about this on the radio. Apparently, the jury sided with the bakery plaintiffs. And it looks like they were awarded quite a bit amount of money.

This being a civil suit, I expect more outcomes like this in the future.

Not reported:

When things were getting heated, there were plans to have a more "vigorous" protest, then it became known that several biker clubs were going to show up in defense of the shop/town.

The protest kind of faded away.....

Congrats racist

You got a win on a young black student and liberal university

What an empty life

LOL that's rich coming from you, defending a thug and a petty thief all for the sake of getting attention. Have you made a thread about it yet to announce your fake outrage to the internets?

I'm sure your momma is very proud of you.

If the story is true then good on them.

All this SJW outrage is getting out of hand. How about people taking responsibility for their own fucking actions, instead of being a bunch of self-entitled c***s?

Its true.

Also, the article looks like it went out before some additional info.

Oberlin College asked the judge to declare a mistrial in light of the jury verdict, and judge shot it down (this was yesterday). This was done before the punitive phase, where the price tag could go to 33 million (and after Oberlin's action, it just might go there if the jury is pissed).

Watch for an appeal (that might be the reason for the mistrial request) to try and get the jury verdict overturned.

I think that's the wrong response for several reasons, one of which has something to do with the latter part of your post, but self righteous arrogance often leads to stupid things.

This gets better and better:

"Oberlin College to Jury: We’re cash poor and big punitive award to Gibson’s Bakery will hurt students"

https://legalinsurrection.com/2019/06/oberlin-college-to-jury-were-cash-poor-and-big-punitive-award-to-gibsons-bakery-will-hurt-students/

Right. 800+ million endowment.

But this jumps out:

"One was an email from a biracial couple (one an alum, the other not), who had known the Gibsons for many years and told the administration that their racist branding “was completely inappropriate in so many ways.” Another alum wrote “[The Gibsons] are a family of gentle and fine people” and that the racist accusations were “a few opportunistic student activists looking for a cause.”

The attorneys also brought up again that Raimondo called a news reporter who she had handed the racially accusative flyer “a liar” soon after he wrote a story that she had done so. She has testified in court previously, and again today, that she was mistaken for doing that. But she also indicated her mistake in calling him a liar was explainable, in that she “believed it was a false statement because I did not know he was the person I gave the flyer to.”"

That doesn't sound like remorse. It sounds like "please don't punish me for my bad behavior".

Parents with any sense would be asking themselves "what exactly is this college teaching our kids?"

It will be interesting to see where the jury goes with this.

Now that the precedent has been set, expect more of this to happen.

It had to happen sometime. maybe that will get people to think twice before they pop off at the mouth too quickly, especially on company time.

My own personal observation is they (SJWs and the like) have no idea how much anger they're stirring up in the average population. The whole attitude of the college was underscored by their general counsel's email after the initial verdict (11 million compensatory) regarding the jury, which the judge did not allow to be presented in court.

I suspect that dismissive, denigrating attitude probably seeped out during the court proceedings.
