what a weird topic, I know...but I have this problem that crops up whenever I get sick with the common cold, and that is that my tonsils must be extremely sensitive or something because they ALWAYS get really, really red and swollen and they hurt really bad, to where I can barely swallow, but it's never strep throat when I go to the doctor about it. One time a doctor diagnosed it as "pharyngitis" or something, but I have no idea what that is, it sounds like laryngitis, but it isn't, and sometimes they'll give me antibiotics and sometimes not. Nobody seems to be able to explain why it always settles in my throat. Really bad, too, I mean I almost lose my voice and everything. It's been happening since I was about 14. And what else is weird is that one of my tonsils in particular swells up extremely large, like twice its normal size, it's my left one.

Someone help me. lol. I think I'm coming down with a damn cold (always pick up something in Disneyland, every damn time)... 😢

Sweet-P, thank you for chiming in. So you know what I'm going through!! Thank goodness someone knows the pain & frustration. I'm glad you got your tonsils out though. Now, I've heard that before, that it's an operation that's less risky the younger you are. My question is, why is it so tricky to have them out when you're older? I would be willing to have the surgery, the pain gets so bad sometimes. It literally hurts to breathe through my mouth right now. Last year, when I was IN Disneyland, I got a respiratory infection which I thought was simply a cold at first, but came back and had to be prescribed drugs and the whole nine yards and they told me it was a little more serious than a cold. Anyway, both of my tonsils were so swollen that they were almost touching each other, and they were bright, firey-red. This is just becoming rediculous, I'm going to do some research on tonsilectomies and see if I can have one. On a scale of one to ten, ten being the worst, how bad was the pain? What was your recovery like? How much time did you have to take off work?

I have not seen a specialist, no. Just my regular doctor, and her assistant nurse or whatever she is does my throat cultures (god I hate those).

Thanks, I'm trying. So far I have sneezed thirteen times today, stuck my head in a bowl of nearly boiling water in an effort to be able to breath (didn't work), had three very dramatic coughing fits, thrown my blankets off probably twenty five times only to wrap my entire body in them immediately following, and freaked completely out from not being able to breathe at ALL.

Thank you for asking, that's very considerate of ya 🙂

Well, the evil virus has now moved from my head and throat into my chest (still in my sinuses a little bit), and I can't laugh or talk without bursting into a very scary coughing attack. My tonsils are better but I sound all husky-like, they're raw. Yesterday I thought I was going to die of SARS. I'm not kidding. And even better is that our District Manager who is known for his lack of friendliness was at work today almost all day long (talk about stress). He was taking up all the space in the back room so guess where I got to eat my lunch...behind the dumpster in the alleyway behind our building. I'm not kidding about that, either. Sitting on my ass on the pokey, dirty asphalt, next to garbage.

And he refers to us employees as "you girls". I don't know why, but that really bugs me.

lol

Espernaut, that sucks that you get summer colds. I used to never, ever get them (only maybe one bad one in the winter), but I think maybe the stress of traveling + being exposed to thousands upon thousands of germy people in the Happiest Place on Earth + smoking, might be lowering my immune system or something. Oh well, at least this time I wasn't sick *in* Disneyland. (It's happened *that* way the last 2 times I've gone, bummer!)

It could also be partly the stress of flying on airplanes (I'm deathly afraid). But actually I do better every time I fly. The only time I about fainted was on this little tiny thirty-seater plane from San Francisco to the city I live in--it was HORRIBLE, we had a moment of pretty bad turbulence not long after takeoff, bad enough to where *all* the passengers sat bolt upright and you could just sense the nervousness throughout the plane. But I should be used to turbulence leaving SF, because it's so foggy there, that there is always a certain amount of it. It's just not nice on a barbie-sized plane when your seat is right next to the PROPELLER, and the thing is vibrating so hard you feel like your teeth are going to fall out. lol.

Libragirl, that is *very* interesting. I could see how that could be very true...

For me, take off isn't that bad.. the middle's alright if my ears have adjusted (and there are no infants onboard.. they cry & don't know what's happening.. very screechy).. Landing's I watch (like I could do anything, right?).. I feel the same about tiny prop planes. If the pilot can turn around and talk to you, no problem.. it's Too Small. I've ridden more of those than I care to think about.

I know, i hate flying too. I have actually tried to get off a plane right before take off, due to a panic attack, lol. They seated me right down the front and i fell asleep, thank goodness. I like to sit at the front too because i feel more in control or safer there or something. I swore, if i got a terrorist, i would kill him first before letting the plane go down. Oh yeah, i did a fear of flying course and it didn't really help me at all, i think at the end of the day you just have to hold your breath and hope you don't get a terrorist. I really want to go out of the country soon anyhow. Despite what i have said about American culture (ok, im ducking for cover and the multitudes of Americans throw bottles at me), i would love to come to the country.

Oh shoot, ive just realised i am on holidays and for the first time since february, i am able to have a beer, so off to the put i go 😉
