Very cheap and affordable.

Shipping containers are built to international standards and are commonly available in 20 and 40 foot lengths. there are high cube variations as well as
53 foot "high-cubes".
They are made of steel which allows them to be cut and reconfigured into doublewides etc.
It should also be noted that these containers are so designed to withstand a lot of stress - from natural loads weighing up around 40,000 lbs, which
is far more than the average homeowner could possess in furniture and appliances, etc.

Those who live in the country would do well to consider these.

I've thought about getting into the business of building shipping container homes, offices and workshops and place them on 1-2 acre lots.

A 40 footer is my personal recommend minimum length, however, if you're happy with the minimalist life style the 20 footer is a doable alternative.
