Growing up, did you have mostly good teachers or mostly bad teachers? Do you feel the kinds of teachers you had have had a lasting effect on you or your life? If so, how? If not, why?
Teachers
I had about 50/50, and I feel a lot of my teachers both good and bad made lasting impressions on me.
most of my teachers hated me because
1.) i talked too much
2.) i talked back
3.) my mind would always wander off
4.) i had an "attitude"
but some liked me for oblivious reasons.

I took everything they said to heart, and to this day I still see myself as having "great potential and excellent communication skills, but lacking in motivation and very disorganized". Therefore, I try to overcompensate by being highly organized and faking motivation. lol.
Not oblivious Luz, but obvious! They should have seen you for the gem you are!
har har, gracias phoenix, im out, bbl!
okay Luz! TTYL ๐
Hmmm... I usually avoided the classes with the bad teachers... And when I did argue, I tried to be as reasonable as possible...
โ oh yeah, I did that too. I rarely argued with my teachers; I was much more passive-aggressive, for example I would go to math class in seventh grade and simply not open my book. lol.
Hmmm... Well I wouldn't say I was passive in class... Gwen actually hit me once to get me to keep my mouth shut... It didn't work, of course.
no... it didn't... i'm just going to pray that once i'm a teacher i never have a student like you
LOL Morgan and Gwen!
I was fortunate and had mostly good teachers. My 4th (and 5th) grade teacher made a big impact on me! Because she believed in me, it taught me to believe in myself. As a result, I got straight A's in 4th and 4th grade! (something I didn't repeat until I entered college...too much socializing to do in junior and senior high! But, the point was...I knew I could do it if I wanted to...and my self-esteem was high whether I had the straight A's or not)..
I went through the 5th grade to a very tiny school, so my 4th and 5th grade teacher was the same person as was my 1st and 2nd grade teacher...she was also good...it was my 3rd grade teacher who sucked donkey dicks! (not that I have pictures...but, I am sure she did!!)
After my self-esteem was intact regarding my intellect...it didn't matter if I had a good or bad teacher...I somehow worked around it and insisted they give me info if I wanted it...ignored them if they pissed me off...did well enough to please my parents and graduate on the honor roll!
I would have to say that the bad teachers my daughter had, were WAY worse than I had ever seen and they are still teaching! The bad ones that I had are mostly retired! Sad, but, true! The BAD teachers she had were 10 times worse than any bad teacher I had!

butter! I said 4th and 4th!! I meant 4th and 5th grade!! (They don't make you repeat it for getting straight A's!! LOL!)
My favorite teacher was Mrs. Rosen in kindergarten... we did lots of finger painting... my least favorite teacher was my 9th grade english teacher. he looked like a retired entertainment wrestler and his head was the size of a watermelon and he gave me the worst grade i've ever gotten on an exam
I am sooo glad they let me say 'sucked donkey dicks'! That is one of my favorite expressions!! (Oh please do not take this pleasure away from me, DXP! * fingers crossed * )
LOL! The size of a watermelon??
Truly
Star, I am glad that for the most part you had good teachers growing up. I personally think that teachers have so much power to ruin a child, they need to be extremely temperate and wise when it comes to what they say to children. I mean I will never forget when my kindergarten teacher (if she's reading this, treetrunk off!! lol) accused me of cheating in front of the whole class because I could read "cathedral" and the other kids couldn't. And what sucked about it was, I didn't like any attention being put on me in the first place, and was extremely shy, and I was embarrassed that I could read it, so when she made me feel even worse, it was like, horrible. And so then I purposely misspelled my own name just to get her to like me, which I was pretty sure she didn't. How sad huh. lol. And I remember her saying, "there's no excuse for misspelling your name Heather" all disapproving and butter. oooh, if I could only talk to her today....lol.

Phoenix, my kindergarten was just like yours, and I know other people who had kindergarten teachers like that. Those types of people should not be teaching those kids. It takes a special person to teach kids that young.
Yeah, can you believe that? I mean, that is like putting Hitler in charge of special ed students, you know? Horrible.
Sorry to hear your experience was like mine :/
I agree Phoenix and Romeclone! If I knew how, I would start a movement...like they did in the 60's...I think Arlo Guthrie talks about 'starting a movement' in "Alice's Restaurant".
I hate it when people become teachers for some reason other than a deep desire to teach.
Feeling of children are so tender and I think there should be very stringent criteria for hiring teachers...it shouldn't be just that they have a degree that says they can teach...
If I hadn't had a teacher who believed in me...who knows if I would be as I am...I mean, I was shy, timid, unsure of myself...felt clumsy...I was the middle child (YES! Dammit! I was unloved!) * sorry...dramatic moment * OK...I was loved...but, my parents were basically nondemonstrative and still are like that...
Anyway, my point is that the early years are so important for a child's self-esteem. I believe that all children are born with a sense of wonder about the world around them; and I hate it when that sense of wonder did not blossom into a love of learning because it was not nurtured properly!

It could have been worse...you could have gotten the same teachers your brother had for twelve years of your life. My brother was always outgoing in his classes, the class clown whose grades weren't so high but always had something funny to say. Big problems when my teachers expected I was like him but in actuality I am the shy quiet (slightly demented) students whose grades were the top of her class. Now that I'm in college...it's still happening. Two of my professors and numerous other know my brother all too well.
Sometimes it's not the students but the teachers that have to deal with a lot... if you want to hear my gaggle of stories I've learned from an aunt of mine (who is a teacher) ask away. Some of the stories are absolutely unbelieveable and darkly humorous.
