LOL Morgan and Gwen!

I was fortunate and had mostly good teachers. My 4th (and 5th) grade teacher made a big impact on me! Because she believed in me, it taught me to believe in myself. As a result, I got straight A's in 4th and 4th grade! (something I didn't repeat until I entered college...too much socializing to do in junior and senior high! But, the point was...I knew I could do it if I wanted to...and my self-esteem was high whether I had the straight A's or not)..

I went through the 5th grade to a very tiny school, so my 4th and 5th grade teacher was the same person as was my 1st and 2nd grade teacher...she was also good...it was my 3rd grade teacher who sucked donkey dicks! (not that I have pictures...but, I am sure she did!!)

After my self-esteem was intact regarding my intellect...it didn't matter if I had a good or bad teacher...I somehow worked around it and insisted they give me info if I wanted it...ignored them if they pissed me off...did well enough to please my parents and graduate on the honor roll!

I would have to say that the bad teachers my daughter had, were WAY worse than I had ever seen and they are still teaching! The bad ones that I had are mostly retired! Sad, but, true! The BAD teachers she had were 10 times worse than any bad teacher I had!

Star, I am glad that for the most part you had good teachers growing up. I personally think that teachers have so much power to ruin a child, they need to be extremely temperate and wise when it comes to what they say to children. I mean I will never forget when my kindergarten teacher (if she's reading this, treetrunk off!! lol) accused me of cheating in front of the whole class because I could read "cathedral" and the other kids couldn't. And what sucked about it was, I didn't like any attention being put on me in the first place, and was extremely shy, and I was embarrassed that I could read it, so when she made me feel even worse, it was like, horrible. And so then I purposely misspelled my own name just to get her to like me, which I was pretty sure she didn't. How sad huh. lol. And I remember her saying, "there's no excuse for misspelling your name Heather" all disapproving and butter. oooh, if I could only talk to her today....lol.

Thanks for sharing everyone!

I agree Phoenix and Romeclone! If I knew how, I would start a movement...like they did in the 60's...I think Arlo Guthrie talks about 'starting a movement' in "Alice's Restaurant".

I hate it when people become teachers for some reason other than a deep desire to teach.

Feeling of children are so tender and I think there should be very stringent criteria for hiring teachers...it shouldn't be just that they have a degree that says they can teach...

If I hadn't had a teacher who believed in me...who knows if I would be as I am...I mean, I was shy, timid, unsure of myself...felt clumsy...I was the middle child (YES! Dammit! I was unloved!) * sorry...dramatic moment * OK...I was loved...but, my parents were basically nondemonstrative and still are like that...

Anyway, my point is that the early years are so important for a child's self-esteem. I believe that all children are born with a sense of wonder about the world around them; and I hate it when that sense of wonder did not blossom into a love of learning because it was not nurtured properly!

It could have been worse...you could have gotten the same teachers your brother had for twelve years of your life. My brother was always outgoing in his classes, the class clown whose grades weren't so high but always had something funny to say. Big problems when my teachers expected I was like him but in actuality I am the shy quiet (slightly demented) students whose grades were the top of her class. Now that I'm in college...it's still happening. Two of my professors and numerous other know my brother all too well.

Sometimes it's not the students but the teachers that have to deal with a lot... if you want to hear my gaggle of stories I've learned from an aunt of mine (who is a teacher) ask away. Some of the stories are absolutely unbelieveable and darkly humorous.
