I was in a job that caused me stress I delt with it the Crab way which was eating that got me into trouble as I started to have health problems from my gluttony. I knew I had to do something about it as I lost control my health. Started to change things first was get my diet back in order then second get stress out of my life. I couldn't totally cut stress out of my life it was the nature of the job and the position I was in. It's coming up to 12 weeks since I got away from the job I was in my cortisol levels have normalized.

I thought I had done well cutting out the stress in my life in the last 4 weeks when my cortisol levels normalized I could literally see and feel the difference. I realize now even thou I cut a lot of the job stress out of my life it still cocked over the program.

I've had a good learning experience from the damaging affects of chronic stress I won't be repeating it again. The best way of dealing with chronic stress is walk away make a clean break if that means quitting your job do it. I tried handling the stress I was doing well the chronic stress was still there.

What job "stress" specifically are you referring to?

The stress I was dealing with was from my managers putting stress on my I was doing work that wasn't part of my job description. If I didn't do it the work would never get done and when I said I wouldn't do it management would start making threats that they would fire me.

Many nights I couldn't sleep I always had work on my mind trying to solve problems, trying to deal with crap that never would get done. If I had a decision to be made it had to go through 4 managers before I could get a yes or no. I would get pissed off and do it myself without permission then I would get in butter.

Dealing with the BS I hated my job which in turn added to the stress I was sick and tired of beating my head against the wall. I would work hard to make things work smoothly in the department I worked in then management would screw things up and set things back.

Almost 99% of the employees that work at that corporation have never been self employed they've only worked for somebody else. I've always been self employed I know how to control and organize things management didn't like that. I didn't step on toes I stomped on them I would get so tree trunking pissed off my anger would boil over. I would kick the walls in my office or have a spaz I had to vent my anger.

Never have to deal with it again I will never go back to working in a situation like that way too dysfunctional too many in-experienced people in positions they shouldn't be in. Too frustrating for a guy like myself who is used to be in charge that can make decisions on the fly it is why I was self employed.

@OP - your solution for better health sounds temporary and not long term to me. It's unrealistic to assume that you will never be in a stressful situation again. Right now you have no job and have physically eliminated the environment and people that caused you stress - but you haven't learned to be at peace while confronting a stressful situation. THAT is the big test. Will you falter again once you have a stressful situation? Or do you just decide to live in the middle of no where as a monk?

This is one of the reasons many people say going to India is a peaceful experience. It's not because you are in a peaceful environment - it's actually over-populated and filled with chaos, dirt and invites the most uncomfortable situations. No - it's because if you have peace WITHIN you will be able to be unaffected by your outer surroundings. India is literally the ultimate test to know how zen you actually are within!

Anyway... Those are my two cents in this subject. But, great topic!

I learned not to be such a stubborn Cancer man thinking I can beat chronic stress I know I can't no matter how much I tried it kept kicking my ass.

Sounds like a toxic environment. Was this a large corporation? Good management is often inversely proportional to size of the company IMHO.

Yeah... You thinking you can "beat" chronic stress was just you giving more power and attention to you. All your focus was on it... Therefore creating more stress. Your focus should be on letting it go or not giving it power/ attention. Give your focus and attention to the positive and make it bigger and more powerful.

I know I can't beat chronic stress you will never win, yes all my focus was on being stressed which made it even worse. Its a vicious circle that's for sure. The positive part now is my health is rocketing to the better side of life man does it feel good to be healthy again. All those problems associated with chronic stress are gone.

Oh its very toxic it wasn't too bad a decade ago the corporation started training its new hires to be ass kissers and cause problems for the longer term employees. It is a very negative environment the morale is lower than low it wasn't a positive place to work. Yes it is a large corporation any companies I have wo

Isn't that what alcohol is for? Lately ive acquired a taste for fine wine. Beer is too filling and makes me tired. Liquor taste terrible and I end up sipping from the bottle over a long period so I never really get to feel it. Just the bad taste. Wine on the other hand taste amazing. I start sipping and before I know it the whole bottle is gone along with all the worries and problems. Lovely.

Sounds like you can't be told what to do... I would have just fired you, but they probably didn't want to pay unemployment on you.. Good job, you did what they wanted and quit..

No I don't like being told what to do especially when I'm working with people that can't organize butter. My superiors were scared of me I did such a good job it made them look bad. I worked for smaller companies the decisions I made could and would affect their bottom line if I made a mistake it could have cost them thousands of dollars. I brought that experience with me to the corporate job I had I used to operate my dept efficiently I knew how to do things.

+1

So far, most of the people I've met who were all about starting their own business usually have issues with having someone above them telling them what to do.

"Boo hoo, I don't like being told what to do or making money for those who tell me what to do." Kind of a chip on the shoulder effect.

The OP's personality is a source of his stress as well. As others have said, learn when to let go and say eff it.

However, I can relate. My last job was stupidly stressful. Serving in itself can be pretty stressful, but on top of that, we had really, really stupid managers, a shitty company, and low morale due to these factors. It was a trainwreck to work for. "THESE ARE OUR EXPECTATIONS OF YOU. BUT WE'RE GOING TO MAKE IT REALLY, REALLY HARD FOR YOU TO DO, AND THEN PUNISH YOU IF YOU CAN'T DO IT!"

You know those stupid surveys at the bottom of receipts to win crap or get a coupon? We were written up if we couldn't get people to do at least 3 of those each period. WRITTEN UP over something we had zero control over. All we could do was tell the customer about it and hope they did them.

Seriously some dumb shit.

I got a new, better job a year ago and I feel "normal" for the first time in ages. Work environments like that are so incredibly toxic. It's ridiculous that some of these corporations can't put two and two together and realize that these approaches just create some bs. But when they focus on numbers, they don't really care.

no disrespect, but it sounds like the one who causes stress in your life is you. you let factors stress you out instead of controlling what you choose to give you stress. and you make trouble for the people you work for by feeling like they are inferior and you do not have to listen to them. you can make rules and run things when you work for yourself. but you should know that emotions and temper should be in check when you work for someone else. it sounds like you do not know how to follow rules and humble yourself. you think you have a better way of organizing things, and that is fine. but it means nothing because you to not own the company. and you seem to have a lower opinion of others than you do of yourself. just because others might be working for someone now does not mean they wont be independent later. maybe this job is just a stepping stone for others before they become self employed. don't judge others because they do not live life as you do. the way you approach situations is causing you stress because you think you know better and are better than others.
